horacio Posted January 4, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, I am finally getting my Digilux 3, and would like to know about its shutter lag. My Digilux 2 are kind of bad at it, and so far I have not found any mention in the very few tests/presentations that circulate in Internet. Many thanks. My Digilux 2 are kind of bad at it, and so far I have not found any mention in the very few tests/presentations that circulate in Internet.  There's almost no lag. My perception is that OIS mode 2 can cause a slight additional delay, as the sequence appears to be  1) fully press shutter release 2) wait for IS to work 3) fire shutter  This mode 2 interruption of the shutter sequence may explain why the existing Olympus bodies can't use mode 2... full press of the shutter is hardwired to firing the shutter (of course, it could also just be the proprietary nature of OIS mode 2, but I doubt it). horacio Posted January 4, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Many thanks! And have you used it with Olympus lenses? I am considering also buying the fisheye.

Negligible shutter lag, unless, of course, you are using "live view". I would suggest only using this mode when shooting landscapes.
dwcolvin Posted January 4, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 4, 2007 And have you used it with Olympus lenses?I am considering also buying the fisheye. Â As expected, the D3 works fine with Olympus and Sigma 4/3 lenses. Â The fisheye is very much a special purpose lens. Be sure it's really worth it to you before buying it. Â Or Macros, or Moon shots, or to focus legacy lenses...

terrycioni Posted January 4, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Many thanks! And have you used it with Olympus lenses? I am considering also buying the fisheye. Â Greetings, Â I have used it with Olympus 4/3rds lenses and have also used it with the Sigma 30mm F1.4 4/3rds lens. All work extremely well. I also have the Nikon to 4/3rds adapter from Stephen Gandy CameraQuest Home - haven't tried it yet but will in the next few days. Â No preceptable shutter lag - I agree OIS can cause a slight delay in Mode 2. Â Cheers. Terry.
jdlaing Posted January 4, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 4, 2007 No noticeable shutter lag for me either........other than Live View. Â Om lenses work fine as do the Sigma and Olympus ZD.
dugby Posted January 5, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 5, 2007 I can shoot 5 raw shots consecutively and still get no shutter lag. Â Liveview is a great feature when shooting above crowds.
jdlaing Posted January 5, 2007 Share #11  Posted January 5, 2007 I can shoot 5 raw shots consecutively and still get no shutter lag. Liveview is a great feature when shooting above crowds.   According to the book........you can shoot consecutively up to the size of the card. I use a 2 gig and it says 90 RAW/JPEG. I may just have to try that to see what point it bogs down.  I also have a E-330 and the tilt screen is even better for over your head. Maybe Leica will do that in the future.

Please let us know how do your test goes. Many thanks
horacio Posted January 5, 2007 Author Share #13 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Again, many thanks to all who have taken the time to answer. I am still amazed by the fact that leica has not included into the specs the shutter lag in miliseconds. Cheers. Horacio

jdlaing Posted January 5, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Oops.......I read it wrong. Allow me to correct! Â If shooting RAW = 2 to 3 per second up to 6 recordable. If shooting JPEG = Capacity of the card. Â I suspect that as the 6 shot buffer empties you could shoot more......but I shall test it.
jdlaing Posted January 5, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Okay..... Â I have tested it both ways. Â First, in RAW, you can shoot six and as the buffer clears you can shoot additional. Â Here is the neat part. If RAW is turned off and you are shooting large fine JPEG, the camera will continue to fire until the card is full. In my case that is 90. Additionally........when firing the 6 in RAW there is an indicator on the LCD that shows them writing to the card but when RAW is turned off there is NO indicator. It's like they are instantenously written to the card with no lag. If you drop the image quality down in progressive steps the shutter fires progressively faster as well.
