M8 US to Solms turnaround time?

I returned my M8, which arrived on 11/8/06 with a buckled shutter, to the dealer on 11/9/06. As of today, 1/4/07, I still have no camera, although Leica USA said that the camera went out in the first batch and should be returned "shortly after the first of the year."

I sure hope other peoples' turn around times get down to 3-4 weeks.

I thought it was actually better than has been reported here, but what do I know :) Didn't M.R. of luminous--landscape fame get his personal M8 upgraded in a very short period of time - he often claims no special treatment other than review cameras which he returns when the review is completed. Guy, I think you had a very quick turn around - but I am not sure about that. I think in fairness to Leica staff (a small company) they took several weeks off at Christmas and New Year and will likely be ramping things back up to speed about now.

I have been trying to follow the original upgrade instructions - which said something about being contacted for a specific date for shipping the camera back for the update. I believe in my heart of hearts that will not happen now - and I will ship back in the next few weeks with the help of my local dealer and leica rep - both have been outstanding.

Other than the web announcements and the good work of Sean Reid - I have received two <official> communications - yesterday (mailed on December 22/06 from Solms via airmail) the famous 30% rebate offer letter signed by Stephen Lee, the second was an email received from M8 Support on December 27/06 telling me the price list included in the letter from Stephen Lee was incorrect with no indication of when we would receive an update to that price list. I have no doubt the M8 will be away for at least eight weeks for the update.... :(

Cheers. Terry.

I sent mine on the 8th of December, the order was put through on the 12th (according to my receipt) and the receipt says "4-5 weeks." It's been out of my hands for four weeks now, counting from the eighth, but counting five weeks from the twelfth, it could be "on time" and I'd still not get it back until 15th-20th. I would not be shocked if it were out of my hands for a full six weeks. Of course, ten days of that was Christmas vacation.

I pitched my sick M8 East in the direction of New Jersey (USA) on 1 December. I hope to have it back in my hands sometime next week, mainly 'cause I need it for a shoot on 13 January.

But I suspect I may actually get the thing at end of the month.

Meantime, I'm buying IR cut filters that I'll need in addition to the two larger ones that Leica is 'possed to give me next month. Then there's that other battery I'll need...
