laineeey Posted January 3, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a young photography enthusiast and owns a SONY Cybershot digital camera with 7.2 Megapixels. However, I really want to own a Leica M8 but it is too expensive to buy. I just rely with my parents for money... So they are willing to buy me the V-LUX 1 because it's cheaper than the M8. Any opinions for that? Can you V-LUX 1 owners post pictures taken by that model? Thank you very much! Paul Gruyters Posted January 3, 2007 Share #2  Posted January 3, 2007 Hi,  Here are three I've taken with my V Lux recently.  outdoors colour and B/W and indoors colour.  I find the camera extremely versatile.  Regards, Paul. Cyrshot Posted January 3, 2007 Share #3  Posted January 3, 2007 Elaine,  I've found the Vlux 1 to be a great and versatile camera. The system allows you to do a lot and as you know is a lot less expensive than the M8. At High ISOs you will find some noise, but chances are you won't need to be above 400. It would highly recomend it.  http://www.leica-camera-user.com/nature-wildlife/12819-dark-forest.html#post132681  http://www.leica-camera-user.com/nature-wildlife/12817-eyes-wild-house-cat.html  These are two pictures I took recently with the camera, I think the images posted before speak greatly as well.  -Matthew
Irishimage Posted January 3, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 3, 2007 Hi Elaine I recently upgraded myself from a Sony Cybershot S70 (3.3Meg) to the V-Lux1 and would agree with all the above posts regarding its versatility quality and value for money etc. If you check out the Tags link above .it shows some of the V-Lux images posted on this forum which should be of help to you.. Best of luck. Noel

In my SONY cam, the pictures are rectangles.  On the V Lux you have the option of three aspect ratios 4:3, 3:2, 16:9  Basically 4:3 = monitor style ratio  3:2 = 35mm film  16:9 = wide screen T.V  Regards, Pau. wmyowell Posted January 4, 2007 Share #9  Posted January 4, 2007 For Christmas I bought a V-Lux 1 for my wife. We took it, my Digilux 2 and D-Lux 2 to Switzerland.  I am very impressed with the camera. Here is a photograph that she took on Christmas day.  Bill Yowell  P.S. I've been trying for about 30 minutes to post this picture. Downsized it to 98 KB, but no luck. I could post photographs on the old forum; this is the first I've tried to post on the new forum. Aside from cosmetics and possibly a VERY slight difference in firmware, it's identical to the V-Lux 1, and it can be found for several hundred dollars less. egibaud Posted January 5, 2007 Share #15  Posted January 5, 2007 Save your parents some money and get a Panasonic FZ50 or a second hand FZ20. If you have budget for the V1... spend it on one FZ20 + clux1 type camera for angles wider than 36mm  I have the Panasonic FZ30 a bit older than the FZ50 similar features but I regret my FZ20 (anyway I have an M8 ordered)
elansprint72 Posted January 5, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Elaine, Your parents made the correct choice! Â Look forward to seeing some of your results on the photo forum. Â Cheers, Pete.
Cyrshot Posted January 5, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Elaine, Â You're already saving money by not buying the M8. The difference in cash between the FZ50 and the Vlux is minimal, nothing worth stressing over. I'd pick up the Vlux, some of the Z series dont have a flip out LCD screen as well, i am pretty sure. wmyowell Posted January 6, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted January 6, 2007 egibaud, Â You are entitled to your opinion that the FZ20 is a better choice than the V-Lux 1, but that's what it is, an opinion, and my wife and I disagree. Â Her previous camera was the FZ20, and the V-Lux 1 is a considerable improvement in our opinion. The manual zoom ring on the lens, hinged LCD, and thumb and finger wheels are definitely better, as is its overall feel. Â Now we have to find a home for the FZ20. wmyowell Posted January 7, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks, Andy, Â It took a bit, but I've got the hang of it now. Posted two together on the Photo forum, then studied the instructions and now understand how to place text where I want it, separate the photographs and see the photo in preview. The way I was doing it the photograph didn't show up in the preview. Â Bill Yowell
