MPerson Posted July 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been trying to get Diafine 1L pack (the US quart version) from all my usual suppliers in the UK and mainland Europe to no avail. It appears that BKA in Illinois have been taken over by OmegaSatter - they are now known as OmegaBrandess! Supplies of the the 1L pack are low to non-existent in Europe and the dollar-sterling/euro strength is going to push the cost up considerably plus one supplier had heard that the new company are putting the price up. It would be a real shame to see Diafine price itself off my darkroom shelf.
Advertisement Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hi MPerson, Take a look here Diafine Dilemma. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ismon Posted July 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2010 Easy enough to make your own Diafine: Part A: 750ml Water 35gm Sodium Sulfite (anhy) 6gm Hydroquinone 0.2gm Phenidone 6gm Sodium Bisulfite Water to make 1 litre Part B: 750 ml Water 65 gm Sodium Sulfite 20 gm Sodium Metaborate (or 20 gm Borax to mimic a "D-76 look") Water to make 1 litre Ingredients last forever, and can be the basis for many developers. MPerson Posted July 22, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 22, 2010 Well Diafine is a proprietary developer and the MSDS sheets only show one ingredient for each bath, the rest appears to be a trade secret. I have mixed and used most of the 'Diafine-like' developers, including the one you posted - some good some mediocre. Plenty of options in The Film Developing Cookbook (Anchell & Troop) and Patrick Dignan's Classic B&W Formulas. Just have to wait and see how the extra costs impact on whether European suppliers will continue to stock it.
Morten Grathe Posted July 22, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2010 Try www.photografica.com That is where I usually buy my Diafine.

Charlie Johnson Posted July 22, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 22, 2010 I was looking for the same. In the end Silverprint sold the Gallon version for a 20% discount.
MPerson Posted July 24, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted July 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks guys but buying from Europe the shipping bumps the price up too!! I don't want to make a gallon yet as we are packing up the house for moving. Back to the stalwart Rodinal......
rob_x2004 Posted July 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 24, 2010 Stick with the rum, Andy. I know moving is a challenge, but rodinal is best left in the darkroom. The grits worse than parsley.
