mjh Posted July 23, 2010 Share #21 Posted July 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1:1? No they didnt. It's crept in some time after the LX1.Maybe it crept in with the LX4 huh? The 1:1 ratio was a recent addition to the LX3 (firmware 2.1) and D-Lux 4 (firmware 2.2). The LX1/D-Lux 2 and their successors prior to the LX5 (there was no LX4) had an aspect ratio lever with settings for 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9.
Advertisement Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Hi mjh, Take a look here How the d-lux 5 will be... . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jankap Posted July 23, 2010 Share #22 Posted July 23, 2010 The possibility to choose an aspect ratio is a nice feature. But why with a lever and not in the setup menu? Also the use of the function "multi aspect ratio series" is not clear to me. Jan
jsrockit Posted July 23, 2010 Share #23 Posted July 23, 2010 No, the X1 is definitively NOT the successor of the D2 - no zoom lens, long-winded, laborious manual controls, no viewfinder (and be it an electronic one), too small to give the feeling of a "real" camera. While agree that the D2 and X1 are totally different... what's with the long winded part and laborious manual controls part?
AMinSF Posted July 23, 2010 Share #24 Posted July 23, 2010 If the lx5 becomes available in august for $499, how long until the leica model comes out? And I wonder what the cost will be. I think the current d-lux4 is $880 retail, so I assume the d-lux5 will be AT LEAST that much. That's a substantial price difference and I hop leica pulls a few rabbits out of their magicians hat to make the d-lux5 uniquely leica! In the meantime I'm content with my black d-lux3. I think it's one of the classics in that camera line.
bill Posted July 23, 2010 Share #25 Posted July 23, 2010 The possibility to choose an aspect ratio is a nice feature. But why with a lever and not in the setup menu? I for one would never use it buried in a menu. I like the lever because it is directly accessible when I want it and I can use it while framing the subject. jankap Posted July 24, 2010 Share #27 Posted July 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Things are getting worse still. The euro is getting stronger again. You could make a trip to Europe and buy it tax-free (19% !!). Jan
rob_x2004 Posted July 24, 2010 Share #28 Posted July 24, 2010 Cloud land. If the LX5 is available for five hundred theres no reason the Leica livery version could not retail at the same, other than they know people will pay a premium for the dotappeal or percieved prestige. So yes there is a market. Theres also a snob thread over at barnacs or customer forum.
elgenper Posted July 24, 2010 Share #29 Posted July 24, 2010 Well, less than USD 3000 also would do , nevertheless, you hit the crucial point. I am fed up with all those small toy cameras. It is time for a REAL successor of the Digilux 2. Well, I DID find my personal successor of the Digilux 2, but USD 3000 certainly wasn´t enough... After looking at the X1, I too decided I was fed up with "compromise" cameras, and bought the M9 with 2 new Summicrons (35 and 75). That was IT! I´ve hardly left the house without it ever since Feb 5, when I finally got it. And, I feel a bit sad, but I haven´t used my beloved Digilux 2 since that date either (and no, it´s NOT for sale! It´s a collectible classic that I just won´t ever part with).

h00ligan Posted July 25, 2010 Share #32 Posted July 25, 2010 From the samples it looks to have better high(er) iso performance. It's hard to say though, since what I've seen were jpg - should be interesting to find out in a month.
