M lenses and other cameras

I need a light weight camera to mount on a machine, the camera that ticks lots of boxes is the new Sony Nex 5. I have not been overly impressed with the samples I have seen so far, i think a lot of the faults is just poor lens quality.

Also there is not much of a lens range being offered by Sony. A not impressive 16mm with the promise of a clip on lens does not get me excited.

I realise there are folk here that use M lenses on things like the 4/3 Panasonics, I also remember reading in the beginning there were issues. Knowing how in camera software is relied upon to correct lens anomalies these days, is the use of Leica lenses on third party bodies worth it or does it just bring it down to the standards of others. The inbuilt AA filters will be a leveler to a degree, but do these cameras induce CA or other problems you would not expect to see on a complete Leica system?

Manual focus is not a problem.

Thanks,

Kevin.

Have a look at Olympus EP-L1 which produces very good out-of-camera JPGs, and works well up to ISO1600 in my experience. If you're planning to shoot handheld, I suggest using electronic VF (VF-2) as it helps manual focusing.

I'm currently using Olympus's E-PL1 with 35mm and 75mm Summarit. The sharpness and glow are there in abundance in the pictures. A pity m43 sensors do not seem to work with wider angle M glasses. Some examples with 75mm Summarit; resized OOC jpgs:

Tempted to get a NEX but colors don't appeal to me and exposure does not seem very reliable. There's this heavily processed look to the images from the NEX even with M glasses in front.
