Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been shooting digital a long time and as a left eyed user there is not a single accessory as important as a cleaning cloth for nose grease. I have like 6 of these and they really are good. Frankly they should be in the box with the M8. I HIGHLY suggest getting at least one. It really is almost mandatory. Welcome, dear visitor! Skippy Sanchez Posted January 2, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2007 how 'bout using a handkerchief, or must it have a leica red dot to be effective?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 2, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 2, 2007 how 'bout using a handkerchief, or must it have a leica red dot to be effective? YES. Actually you can use it on your lenses as well. hankercheif maybe a little rough for the lenses.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 2, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The ski mask works for me , i can get a two for one use out of that. Rob the bank for more lenses and use it to protect the LCD screen. :D
Peter41951 Posted January 2, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 2, 2007 YES. Actually you can use it on your lenses as well. hankercheif maybe a little rough for the lenses. For nose prints, how about an itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny red polka-dot hankie, white with red dots, that is..... For the first time, yesterday, I tried right eye shooting with my M6. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be but more practice is needed!
rpierce Posted January 2, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 2, 2007 The microfiber sheets used for autodetailing (89% polyester, 20% polyamide, 16 by 16 inches) at about 12 $US for a bag, seem to work quite well for this application and as a wrap in the camera bag. Could be the same thing. I'll use them for my glasses, but not on lenses. Should be great for LCD "nose grease." Bob Pierce
khanosu Posted January 2, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 2, 2007 With the 1.25x magnifier I have no trouble focusing and shooting using my right eye and keeping my left eye open (took about a week to get used to it); the two eyes can adapt to the small difference in scale and actually focus on objects as if the scale difference was not there. But I can not do it without the magnifier on the camera; the real scene and the one from the viewfinder are just too different in scale. In that case I just use my left eye (since I don’t think that exposing a squinting/closed eye to the subject is cool). So for wide angles or when I let my dog use the camera (talk about nose grease) Guy’s suggested cleaning cloth will come in really handy (do they make ski masks for dogs that cover the tip of their noses?) khanosu Posted January 2, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 2, 2007 Another solution for nose grease for those who do not chimp that much (and do not use a Leica hand grip): Nuova pagina 4 Furrukh Welcome, dear visitor! Furrukh I ought to have said that I too used the 1.25 magnifier. Now I'll have to try again without to see whether it's more difficult. Changing shooting eye is probably the cheapest accessory! khanosu Posted January 2, 2007 Share #13 Posted January 2, 2007 Hi Peter, yes, it is a balance between the shooting eye and nose grease I am looking forward to see if you are successful in using both eyes (focusing nad viewing) without the 1.25x. lars_bergquist Posted January 2, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 2, 2007 For the first time, yesterday, I tried right eye shooting with my M6. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be but more practice is needed! I'm right-eyed but left-handed. When I learned to shoot magnum revolvers, I found that I had to see and shoot from the same side, otherwise the heavy recoil would play havoc with my groups. My recipe for eye-switching was a classical black pirate's eye patch (went very well with the Colt too...) This did the trick in an amazingly short time. Try it. Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 2, 2007 Share #15 Posted January 2, 2007 Right eye for me is worthless. Stigmatism or is it Astigmatism. Oh hell it just stinks that is all I know. LOL Even with the 1.25 i get nose grease , nothing can be done for a big nose.
khanosu Posted January 2, 2007 Share #16 Posted January 2, 2007 Lars, you are cracking me up I can picture photographers on the streets of NY city, with their lenses reflecting bright red from the IR cut filters and a pirate’s eye patch on one eye. Seriously, this is a good technique to relax the other eye that is focusing. Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try at home. Furrukh
khanosu Posted January 2, 2007 Share #17 Posted January 2, 2007 Hey Guy, I recall seeing a picture form Yosemite Park where I distinctly saw you focusing with both eyes close. You should have no problem with nose grease; I am sure this is just an excuse to buy another accessory. Furrukh
Riley Posted January 2, 2007 Share #18 Posted January 2, 2007 some people do have different interhemisphere connections in their brains that do weird things for them with left hand/left eye or right hand/right eye things its not a weakness, because their are some things they do better because of it sniper training examines this detail, where the object is for a sniper to shoot with both eyes open, not everyone can do that, but it is believed that it can be trained into people in understanding this, you need to visualise how your eyes work because the eye only has one lens, as we know the image at the back of the eye is inverted the common myth is, that the brain corrects this, fooling us to think its the right way up, not true what happens is, the eyes are connected to each others opposite brain hemisphere it is as though, the eyes as a pair, seen as connected to the closest hemisphere are turned/rotated as a pair upside down, thus becoming connected to the opposite side of the brain, and correcting the inverted image, because each eye is actually upside down at least, thats how they explain it in the army now for a 'usual' right handed person, this means that the right side of the body dominates ie, the right leg is stronger, the right arm is stronger etc, but the favoured eye for a right handed person is the left eye., similarly, a left handed person is usually right eye dominant some 15% of people are left handed, not all will fit into this grid so if you are left handed, left eye strong, you are very unique
