Heads Up - Viewfinder Magnifier

Just thought I'd let you know that if you use the Leica viewfinder magnifier and if you tether it with the lanyard to the strap "loop" which threads through the camera eyelet, the clip on the lanyward rubs against the top of the camera behind the step protector and causes wear of the chrome/black.

Thanks i should just probably take the lanyards off anyway. i never take the magnifers off anyway. I can use it from 28mm up and with the 21 i use a external finder anyway, the 15mm I guess. LOL

I fastened the (really cute) little leather case to the Leica strap and the magnifier is tethered to the strap inside the (closed) case. When I carry it, I generally rest my hand under the (really cute) little case.

Whatever happens, the magnifier is fantastic. It has made focusing with 35 and up a l-o-t easier.

HNY to all. Many thanks for my new toys.

Just an FYI for those wearing untethered....

Last weekend I went from a 78 degree plane to a 34 degree runway. After a few minutes the magnifier came unscrewed and fell off (lucky for me I had the lanyard!).

Different thickness metals contract/expand at different rates. I attach mine to the lug and leave the case on the strap. And yes, I check tightness every time I take the camera out.

It does help me , makes that focusing patch just a little bigger for me. So yes it is very usefull. HK supplies sells a off brand that I hear is pretty good, check e-bay. i have 2 leica's and a loan to go with it. LOL

Interestingly, they also do a 0.85 magnifier which might make the 24mm frame easier to for those who wear glasses.

The danger of not using the lanyard is that if the magnifier comes unscrewed, you've lost it. It's the clip which fastens it to the camera strap "D" ring which rubs against the camera top.

The first thing I did after I got the 1.25x was to untether the magnifier. The second thing was to take off that rubber ring around the outer side of the view finder; sooner or later that is bound to fall off.
