woodyspedden Posted January 2, 2007 Share #2  Posted January 2, 2007 I checked every single days in December 06 on Leica home page about the DMR firmware upgrade but of course I found nothing. So any news about this firmware from the US or Solms? Here we are in Hong Kong hear nothing from the sole agent.  Leica Solms is on vacation like almost all German manufacturers. Try to contact them starting tomorrow to get real information  Woody Spedden
bono0272 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Thanks Woody. Â Any news yet? Â How difficult it is to upgrade a firmware actually? Takes almost a year.....
robsteve Posted January 4, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 4, 2007 I heard it was due on February 29th
rsolomon Posted January 4, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 4, 2007 i also heard february from a rep. however i agree this is L O N G overdue. considering that V1.2 was not worth putting on this is really the first firmware upgrade of the DMR. Â i hope this is not an indication of leica's commitment to the DMR... or the R line
bono0272 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Share #6  Posted January 4, 2007 I heard it was due on February 29th  Sorry Rob but there is no 29th Feb in 2007.  Would this be rumor again? Months ago in the forum it said 1.3 would be released in Dec 06 but ... sigh.
sdai Posted January 4, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) So if it appears now, how many of you would try it immediately? ... I know I won't.

robsteve Posted January 4, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 4, 2007 So if it appears now, how many of you would try it immediately? ... I know I won't. Â I would even try a beta of it !
bono0272 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted January 4, 2007 So if it appears now, how many of you would try it immediately? ... I know I won't. Â I will try if it appears now, there is no harm at all. Like the 1.2, if you don't like it just return to 1.1. Â But I do expect there will be satisfactory improvement in the 1.3. Still after the disappointed 1.2 and a long overdue of1.3 Leica should at least give some confidence to the DMR users. Otherwise how can Leica commit the R users investing on the next R machine? itn Posted January 4, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 4, 2007 They have been sold out the entire stocks of DMR. Which means...Ummm.
bono0272 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted January 4, 2007 They have been sold out the entire stocks of DMR.Which means...Ummm. Â Really? Is that true? Â But sold out does not equivalent to the product is discontinued. Is Leica no more manufacturing DMR?
johnjs Posted January 4, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Just wondering, I don't have the DMR, but I've noticed alot of clamoring for a firmware update quite a bit here in the past few months --- what camera functions/image parameters are you DMR users hoping to have optimised by a firmware update? The camera seems to me like it's producing great images in it's present state, based on what I've seen here. Best-John
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 4, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted January 4, 2007 It's not the image and there is nobody wanting any changes there and if there was i would sell it in a second. It's almost perfect as far as image. buffer speed is slow, LCD could be more accurate, AWB is off in continous mode, 4gb support. Turn off payback with touch of shutter, faster preview on playback. Basically it is slow is the real main issue
itn Posted January 4, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted January 4, 2007 Richard, Â I do not have any evidence which clearly suggests that the DMR is no longer available and if I puzzled you, I have to apologize. To clarify the point I have already wrote to Leica Japan as well as Leica AG regarding my concern. Â Regards, Â Iwao Nomoto
bono0272 Posted January 5, 2007 Author Share #16  Posted January 5, 2007 Richard, I do not have any evidence which clearly suggests that the DMR is no longer available and if I puzzled you, I have to apologize. To clarify the point I have already wrote to Leica Japan as well as Leica AG regarding my concern.  Regards,  Iwao Nomoto  Iwao,  No apology is required at all. This is just a discussion and we all share our point of views.  Back to the subject, I did write to Leica Solms questioning about the DMR firmware upgrade but of course there is no reply at all.  So that would be very kind of any members in this forum can obtain the more realistic date on this firmware update from some sources of Leica.  I do agree with Guy. The picture quality of the DMR is excellent, but I hate the AWB. My DMR never satisfies me on AWB. Even I asked the technicians here in Hong Kong's Leica sole agent, they agreed that the DMR AWB is not as strong as those Japanese DSLR. Sigh.... rljones Posted January 5, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted January 5, 2007 We were told an update would be out at Photokina. Hearing no word on Photokina reports, I contacted a Leica USA Rep shortly after Photokina via email. He replied, saying that the software should be available soon. Of course, that was several months ago. Â I would think with such a niche market and with such dedicated users (not to mention the financial support we users have invested) that Leica could at least be civil (and adult) enough to say something like "we're sorry, we're working on it", and provide some time estimate. itn Posted January 5, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted January 5, 2007 This is my personal thoughts on the DMR. Â The initial production lot, say 1000+, has been shipped and there's no extra to be produced and Leica AG has no intention to place a new order for the manufacturer, i.e., KODAK and Imacon. Therefore, when the stocks are all gone, that is the end of DMR. For firmware 1.3, I think, they will come up with it sometime, however, their top priority is to sell M8. Look at the quantities of post in the digital forum about M8, compare to those about DMR when it was firstly launched, you will know the R users are far less than M users. Â Do the retailers still accept orders on DMR, although it is out of stock?
Jamie Roberts Posted January 5, 2007 Share #20  Posted January 5, 2007 Iwao, {snipped} Even I asked the technicians here in Hong Kong's Leica sole agent, they agreed that the DMR AWB is not as strong as those Japanese DSLR. Sigh....  I don't think the R9 / DMR will ever be good at AWB. How could a film body have a dedicated WB sensor like other dSLRs?  The R10, on the other, will have no excuse for very bad AWB, unless it too is based on a film body!
