colorflow Posted January 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had my M8 for 6 weeks now, and have re-charged it a few times. However, recently the battery seems to be discharging when the camera is turned off. This happened twice. The battery would show 2 bars when I turned off the camera, and it would be completely dead the next time I turned it on. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thanks, Alan

The battery has performed very well and I have been using for almost two months. Has anyone else seen this problem? Woody Spedden
SMF Posted March 22, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 22, 2007 I received my M8 a couple of weeks ago and had this happen to me yesterday. I only noticed because the top plate and back of the camera suddenly felt warm. I'd actually just bought Luigi's half-case and wondered if it had been caused by the leather case pressing on the back buttons? Stephen
jaapv Posted March 22, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 22, 2007 I would use the Leica cure-all for this: pop in the battery, switch the auto-power-off to "off" in the menu and leave the camera switched on overnight to drain the battery completely. Then recharge the battery and the thing is reset. Btw. I do hope you have a spare battery; I could not contemplate and digital camera without one in my pocket... Stephen If the camera is getting warm that seems to be one of the first signs that there is something wrong with either the battery or the camera. People have reported that they experienced that just before the camera died. No I have not had the warm camera or the battery going dead when turned off. robertwright Posted March 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 22, 2007 I was one of those that had a battery-heating event when my M8 died. I began to have problems turning it on and getting it to recognize menu buttons, and thenI put it in the bag, and when I got home 20 minutes later, I took it out and the entire body was very warm. It subsequently continued to heat and discharge the battery and never recovered proper operation. I would sequester the battery and try another, but it might be an in camera issue. Has anyone experienced this problem?Alan Let's try the simplest solution first. Go into the Menu and make sure that your "Auto Power Off" is not set to "off" in the first place. jrc Posted March 22, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 22, 2007 I would be very hesitant to use that battery again. Some people here have suggested (and I believe that there's a good chance that they're right) that bad batteries are implicated in Sudden Camera Death. My camera has been off for repairs since March 5, and I don't expect it back for some time yet -- a big price to pay for flukey batteries, if that's what the problem is.
