I received 3 unsolicited similar emails from Leica M8 support on Friday, December 29, 2006. I thought I'd list it here, because I haven't seen it mentioned by others Leica Forum Members. The letter may have been a result of my registering my M8 by email with Germany and by Federal Express with the Leica facility in New Jersey.

I was impressed by the conciliatory tone of the letter, which attempted to clear up misunderstandings about the very high price of the Noctilux 50 mm F/1.0 lens, and the earlier letter's insistence about adding in the Value Added Tax.

Here is the email message:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Dear LEICA M8 Customer,

In our haste to respond as quickly as possible to LEICA M8 owners regarding our CEO's lens offer, we might have mistakenly sent an incorrect version of the price list to some customers.

1. We prepared two versions of the price list -- one for countries that implemented a Value-Added Tax such as the EU and Canada, and one for countries that do not have a Value-Added Tax structure.

2. Also the price of the LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50 mm f/1 was wrong in both price lists.

3. The prices both price lists represent the complete price that the M8 owner pays to Leica - that means all applicable customs duties, VAT (where applicable) as well as shipping and customs clearing costs.

In the very near future, you will receive the correct price list for the country you live in, and the prices will reflect a price approximately 30% lower than the average Suggested Retail Price of these Leica products worldwide.

We again apologize.

Kind regards

LEICA M8 Support

Does anyone have the US price list yet?

Bill

No and I have yet to hear from either N.J. or Solms on returning the M8 for the upgrade. Is there anyone from the U.S who have been contacted for the return? All I have seen on the threads is from European or U.K. users who have been instructed for the return.

Maybe they should just stick to the original mailing... some people seemed to think that was a fabulous deal, a 30% discount and then getting socked with a nearly 20% fixed margin for shipping and duties!!! I always wondered who the people who thought they ever 'won' something on ebay were, now I know. :)
