Wandering if there is another lens hood that i maybe able to use for it. It's a 46mm filter thread

chiqua Posted December 31, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2006 Yesterday i bought a Contax GG-2 in eBay. It´s for the Contax 2/45. I hope that it works without vignetting at my 1,4/35 Asph. on a M8. With the 1,33 crop, it might... Frank
cbretteville Posted December 31, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2006 Guy, I picked up a Heavystar 46mm Wide all metal hood from his eBay shop after getting at tip on the old LUF. eBay: New! Metal Wide Angle 46mm Screw-in Lens Hood (item 140046449068 end time Jan-24-07 15:05:17 PST) At less than $7 how wrong can you go? To get a cap I got ageneric 56mm black plastic cap from B&H, its a little wide so I lined it with some light baffeling felt. Try a 55mm it should fit perfectly. Welcome, dear visitor! I have not been able to see any difference in flaer or wignetting using this hood as compared to the original when in use on my M6. My biggest issue woth the original apart from the VF blockage id the aperture mark dot that moves and makes me think I have one set that I don't. This one fixes that and blocks less of the VF. - Carl
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! frc Posted December 31, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 31, 2006 Doesn't it block to much of the bottomright corner in the viewfinder?
cbretteville Posted December 31, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 31, 2006 This round one blocks less of the VF than the original. With this lens there will be some blockage even without a hood. To avoid that alltogether you have to use an older 35'lux and no hood on that. I've had mine for a year, almost, and the blockage I've learned to live with. I was very consous of it at first, but now it dosen't bother me. I accept it as part of the deal with the lens. - Carl

Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 31, 2006 I might even try the one on the 28 F2 cron. I like the old screw in metal hoods. BTW there are 4 left someone should get these also
bnelson Posted December 31, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 31, 2006 I'm trying one too Guy. I like these type hoods. Bill
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 31, 2006 I agree Bill just seem more secure the 35 lux hood if i grab it and if it is half lose than it comes apart, I like the security of screw in's.
Eoin Posted December 31, 2006 Share #12 Posted December 31, 2006 I had this problem also, go to turn the apature ring and you loosen the hood lock ring. The answer was simple for me, if you look inside the locking ring you'll see there are two stainless steel leaf springs that the round tabs press against when you turn the locking ring. What I did was take a very pointed blade and place it behind the longest flattest part of the spring and twisted the blade to place a slight kink(bend) in the leaf spring. This places more resistance for the locking ring as the two tabs have to press harder against the springs when you turn it. Warning, Don't stab your self in the hand and at little adjustment, test and a little more adjustment is the safest method. Disclamer, do at your own risk. Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #13 Posted December 31, 2006 I just did it with a jewelers screwdriver and just bent it down some. Worked but i will still switch to the metal one. Thanks

sean_reid Posted December 31, 2006 Share #15 Posted December 31, 2006 A friend sent me his 28 Hexanon to test and included a vented 46 mm-thread hood. I love the hood so much, I've been using it with various lenses. If I find a source for them, I'll pass that on. I don't like to have the frame line area blocked at all, when possible. Cheers, Sean (from the road)
Leicaiste Posted December 31, 2006 Share #16 Posted December 31, 2006 There where 4 different lens hoods made by Leica, working with the 35/1,4 Asph. The hood made for the rare 35/1,4 Apherical, almost the same made for the 28/2 Asph., and two version of the hood designed for the 35/1,4 Asph. One without and one with a locking ring. Which one are you using ?

topoxforddoc Posted December 31, 2006 Share #18 Posted December 31, 2006 That's great news. Does anyone know of an alternative hood for the E41 pre-asph 35'lux? Thanks Charlie Chan
woodyspedden Posted December 31, 2006 Share #19 Posted December 31, 2006 I have a chrome silver 35 lux and the hood from the Contax G2 35mm lens is the perfect solution. Although the Contax is titanium, not chrome silver, it looks very good on the lens. Also the Contax hood uses a press fit cover which is very convenient. topoxforddoc Posted January 1, 2007 Share #20 Posted January 1, 2007 Woody, Many thanks. Which of the hoods do I get GG1, GG2 or GG3? I didn't realise these fitted an E41 (as opposed to a series 7) thread. Charlie
