Jamie Roberts Posted January 1, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted January 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Jono-- Â First, thanks for the compliments on that JPEG shot, and Sergio, thanks for the kind words on the profile, too! Â On AWB on the M8, I've found I get more consistent results just sticking the thing on daylight (just like shooting daylight film) than with AWB. That's a hold-over for me from the DMR, which has no WB sensor at all, and one reason why I always shoot RAW. Â As for the greens in JPEGs vs RAW (and profiles), I'm still waiting for the *&^#%$ targets and filters I need to do the next revision, though I just got a DNG shot (unfiltered) of a very glossy GM chart, so we'll see where that goes. You're absolutely right about greens to date, though. Â BTW--you might try Lightzone--it's a RAW converter with selections (and channel and layer operations, too!). I think the basic colour has been updated for the M8. I find I'm a bit too gross with it for colour yet, but I like the idea of it quite a lot! Â I've enjoyed Lightzone for B/W work, but find that it takes a while to make an exportable TIFF file. Another quick RAW converter to use is Silkypix, very flexible, very easy to work with. Does just fine with DMR files, and probably will be able to pick up M8 DNG's just fine as well. Â Geoff
ho_co Posted January 2, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted January 2, 2007 Jono-- Some really beautiful shots there! Â But you mentioned your dog in the first post and not in the others. Â Does he realize he's become just an excuse for picture-taking these days? Did he complain at the hail and weather while you were rejoicing in the colors? Remember, mammals other than humans see only two colors, not three, so he may not be as impressed as you with color nuances and may be more interested in a return to the hearth. carlos diaz Posted January 2, 2007 Share #24  Posted January 2, 2007 Hi Jono, According to the BJP review, the best DR you can squeeze from an M8 is to shoot JPEG at ISO160 - where you get half a stop more DR than any other method!  Tim  The BJP review I'm not aware of what that is. Could someone provide a link to where I can read about the JPEG/DNG issue. Thanks Carlos
