Here is the steps for a 900 pixel wide horizontal that is created with actions in PS. Than you can create one for a Vertical at 900 pixels tall. Credit here goes to Jack Flesher on this action which he created for me. I'm lazy. LOL I also use save for web also and will do a screen capture on that also Welcome, dear visitor! rfleica Posted December 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2006 Guy Thanks for this. Really useful. If you ever get the time to post the action itself, that'd be great:) . Regards Robert

khanosu Posted December 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 30, 2006 Guy, “save for web” is still there is CS3 beta at least in the Windows version, File -> Save for web and devices. Another reason it might not be appearing in your install is that perhaps you have not installed Device Central? They have coupled “save for web” with Device Central but the menu choice should appear in CS3. Furrukh
stunsworth Posted December 30, 2006 Share #7 Posted December 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guy, the save for web feature is in CS3 as "Save for Web and Devices" under the file menu.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 30, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 30, 2006 It's greyed out on the Mac. Hmmm
Venkman Posted December 30, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 30, 2006 Maybe you use CMYK? I think to remember that it works in RGB only. Dirk

Guest smep_reloaded Posted December 30, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 30, 2006 If you want only one action for horizontal and vertical you can use "Datei--->Automatisieren--->Bild einpassen" (sorry I don´t know how it´s called in the english version of photoshop). In my action the longer side of the picture is 800 pixel and a very small black and a white frame will be created. Bild einpassen is located here (Photoshop CS): Here is the action, please rename to "Web.atn" (as it is not possible uploading files ending .atn) Regards Stefan
stunsworth Posted December 30, 2006 Share #12 Posted December 30, 2006 Guy, the option is available on both my MacBook and XP desktop.

LJL Posted December 30, 2006 Share #14 Posted December 30, 2006 Guy, Pardon a dumb question for you.....do you have an image open in PS (CS3) when you are looking to File > Save for Web and Devices" ? If not, then it is greyed out in the menu. Sorry if this sounds like a "D'oh" question, but I have caught myself with the same issue a number of times. For those not aware of some of the other glitches in CS3, there is an ongoing list of them and potential fixes at: PhotoshopNews: Photoshop News and Information » Archive » Photoshop CS3 Known Issues - UPDATED LJ
cmb_ Posted December 31, 2006 Share #15 Posted December 31, 2006 Guy, I know you have stated elsewhere that you prefer bicubic smoother for downsampling (you posted some samples showing some slight color differences) and that is what you have selected in your save for web example but I will point out that Jack's action uses bicubic sharper, in case you missed that. harmsr Posted December 31, 2006 Share #16 Posted December 31, 2006 I use bicubic sharper when taking information out of the photo (downsizing). Ray
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #17 Posted December 31, 2006 Guy, I know you have stated elsewhere that you prefer bicubic smoother for downsampling (you posted some samples showing some slight color differences) and that is what you have selected in your save for web example but I will point out that Jack's action uses bicubic sharper, in case you missed that. You know i saw that after i posted it and I finally looked at his action. I am going to change that and rewrite it, i do prefer bicubic smoother . So if your doing the action yourself you may want to try it both ways because i do a little sharpening normally it is a very light touch on my part but i do sharpen a little. i know PS recommends sharpening but if you do some yourself i really don't want to add to it . Thanks for bringing that up becuase i do use smoother in save for web
jlm Posted January 1, 2007 Share #18 Posted January 1, 2007 assuming your work is in Adobe RGB, when do you convert to sRGB for the web conversion?
stunsworth Posted January 1, 2007 Share #19 Posted January 1, 2007 John I convert as the last step before the 'Save for Web'.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 1, 2007 Share #20 Posted January 1, 2007 assuming your work is in Adobe RGB, when do you convert to sRGB for the web conversion? That action will convert to SRGB in the process so you can go directly from a 16 Bit whatever color space you use and it will make it 8 bit , srgb and jpeg in the action I posted. hit a button and you off to the races.
