ski542002 Posted December 28, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello: I'm seriously looking to purchase the Dlux-3, and not the panaleica version. Any thoughts to a comparison of image quality from a raw file shot with the lux-3, and Digilux-2? I know the chip aspect ratio is different. More concerned about opinions on sharpness, color fidelity and noise above 100asa. Many panleica chat-rooms speak of the problems with the Panasonic "venus-engine" (in the LX2's firmware) smearing jpgs, also showing comparisons of raw files that seem to indicate that this engine has a "lesser but still negative effect" on the raw file as well. Does the lux-3 use this venus-engine? I only shoot raw, but would be concerned if this engine has an effect on the raw as well as jpgs. Thanks for the input! ski542002 Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted December 28, 2006 Thanks Peter, for the reply. Very informative. I'm going to post a new thread on some recent "shocking" news I've heard about the dlux-3 from my dealer, about an hour ago. Hopefully, the news is not accurate. ski542002 Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted December 28, 2006 I was going to start a new post on this info I received, but the forum is closed to new threads, so I'm going to state the info below. I just called my dealer, they're huge in the States with stores in multiple locations around the US. I was going to place my backorder for a dlux-3. He said no backorders will be filled, as Panasonic has "cut-off" Leica. There will be no more dlux-3's, effective immediately. Any confirmation of this news!!?? elansprint72 Posted December 28, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 28, 2006 Hello: I'm seriously looking to purchase the Dlux-3, and not the panaleica version. Any thoughts to a comparison of image quality from a raw file shot with the lux-3, and Digilux-2? I would have thought that comparing the Digilux 3 with the Digilux 2 would be more valid- have you got your model numbers crossed? Cheers, Pete. ski542002 Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted December 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry Peter: I missed your reply and got "out-of-sequence" on my response. I'm not familiar with the different sized chips on the D2, Dlux-3, and Digilux-3. I was curious about the comparison because I had (and regrettably sold), a DMC-LC1. It was a great camera. I know what the LC1 could do, and was interested in the comparison from that viewpoint. CD
elansprint72 Posted December 28, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 28, 2006 Chris, Now I understand! D2 takes some beating imho. Cheers, Pete. D2, V-Lux 1.
MJLogan Posted December 28, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 28, 2006 With half the pixels on a sensor with 4x (?) the surface area, the Digilux 2 should be much less noisy than a D-Lux 3. The Digilux 2 is certainly a lot less noisy than my original D-Lux, which only has 3 MP.
