Thanks to Brad Husick for pointing out the way to post noise ninja profiles here.

The extension has been changed from .nzp to .txt in order to upload them. You will need to change them back in order to use them. For photoshop the directory path (on a mac) is Photoshop>Plug-Ins>NoiseNinja>NoiseProfiles. Within the NoiseProfile folder create a folder LEICA (if you don't already have one) and within that a folder DLUX3.

These are from photos of the noise ninja test chart displayed on the computer monitor screen, slightly out of focus as described in the instructions.

I have attached 10 of 15 profiles here, the remaining five on the next post (message board limits!). In total there are 5 each for RAW, JPG fine and JPG standard at ISOs 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600. The other settings for the JPG files were contrast STD, Sharpness LOW, Saturation STD and Noise Reduction LOW (it doesn't matter for RAW).

If you are using auto matching with noise ninja it should correctly select the appropriate file for RAW and JPG fine. I've a sneaking feeling it can also select JPG fine for a JPG standard file. If you are worried, go to the annotations tab in the noise ninja window to check and reselect manually if necessary. When I process files I usually push down all the Luminance and Colors sliders some way lower than the default settings, just taking the edge off the noise while retaining detail. I turn off all sharpening in noise ninja (ie USM amount to zero) and do noise removal as the first step after opening in photoshop, followed by Photokit capture sharpening. If you are opening a raw file via Adobe Camera RAW, remember to turn the luminance and colour noise sliders down to zero, as this is what these profiles are set up for.

I think that's it

enjoy

Malcolm

Antonio, you may have the same problem I had. The solution is here:

In Windows Explorer go to Tools/FolderOptions. Click on the View tab and if the option "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" is active, de-select it. Then proceed to rename the file, using the End key to go to the end of the filename and change the extension to "exe."

Thanks for doing this. Of the jpeg profiles, which are for Fine and which for the other jpeg compression?

Ed

I think the filename is itself a 'shorthand' summary of the settings from which it was created - if so, I think ...jpg2 .... in the file name means jpg standard setting and ...jpg3... means for jpg fine files.

Happy new year everyone - glad you find all the various bits and pieces useful, wasn't intending to put up quite so much up on the forum!

I'm not sure what's wrong, but the Noise Ninja app is not seeing the downloaded profiles. I've changed the extension to .nzp, created a D-Lux3 folder to hold them all, put it inside a Leica folder and then all goes into the noise profiles folder. However, I think the problem must be something to do with the file name... even when pointed directly to the profiles from within the app, the profiles are all grayed out.

I'm working on a Mac, OS X.

Hi Ed,

Hmm ... Here is what my directory structure looks like.

If yours is the same, next question is how did you rename them? I would advise doing this in the Finder (Mac's display of your desktop) without opening in a word processor first. Next, check, what version of Noise Ninja are you using, it was created with 2.1.3. If you did the same, perhaps try downloading just one file again, and just place that in the directory, by itself. If still no joy, will have to think again ...

Sure we will get there eventually .. Malcolm

Hi again, Malcolm, and a Happy New Year... :-)

I downloaded 2.1.3 to replace 2.1.2 but the app still grayed out the .nzp profiles that I had renamed in the Finder. I found that renaming the files in Word, saving as Text Only, rather than renaming in the Finder, caused the profiles to appear within the Noise Ninja app okay. However, I don't think the app was automatically loading the profile, so I did a Load Profile and pointed the app to the correct profile. After a *lot* of beachball spinning, I got the following error message. It's worth noting that the profiles actually do have a .nzp extension, even though that is not the final extension shown in the error message.

HI Ed,

Sounds like simplest route may be back to basics for you! - have a go at creating your own profile, photographing the screen image of the ninja test card - its actually fairly fast to do each one, and explaned well in the pdf manual, sounds like you may have spent more time already trying to get these to work for you!

Once you have your own , see if that works for you or you still have the problem

best, Malcolm

If file extensions are hidden, the true file name may well be "profile.nzp.txt".

However, from your screen capture it doesn't look as though yours are.

May I suggest you create one new profile yourself for the D-Lux3 and look where it ends up. If you put the rest of the profiles in the same folder, you may find the problem solved.

Malcolm and Peter.... thanks for your good suggestions. Peter, it's true that when simply saving to the desktop and then replacing the extension, somehow the extension becomes hidden so that it is a .nzp.txt file. However, removing the .txt still leaves the profile grayed out in Noise Ninja. I'm going to take Malcolm's suggestion and make my own profiles. I'm so unaccustomed to digital (I shoot film, the DLUX3 is my wife's) that it didn't occur to me how easy it would be to make the profiles myself. Thanks all... :-)
