bradhusick Posted December 25, 2006 Share #1 Â Posted December 25, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear fellow enthusiasts, enclosed are some M8 noise profiles for use with Noise Ninja. These were created using a new 1.09 M8, tungsten light, photographing an RGB color target. It is likely that these are not optimized for other lighting conditions, but tungsten represents a more challenging noise environment for the M8 so that's where I started. Â To use them, download the files and rename the extension from .TXT to .NZP and put them in your Noise Ninja profiles folder. (This forum does not allow uploads of .nzp files). Â As always, it's up to you how much noise reduction to do, so play with the settings until you reach a compromise you like. farnz Posted December 26, 2006 Share #2 Â Posted December 26, 2006 Thanks, Brad, I'm keen to try them out. Â Got to wait for my M8 to arrive first of course! (Feb/March according to my dealer. But by then I may have gone crazy from the wait and stormed into the nearest mall and shot everyone in sight with my D2!)
ho_co Posted December 27, 2006 Share #3 Â Posted December 27, 2006 Same here, Brad. Downloading and filing these will give me something to do while awaiting my M8 as well! Â Thanks for taking the time to post them. Â --HC

khanosu Posted December 27, 2006 Share #7 Â Posted December 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Brad! This is very useful. Â By the way did you use any IR cut filters for these profiles? I am wondering how much effect an IR cut filter will have on these profiles. Â Thanks! bradhusick Posted December 27, 2006 Author Share #8 Â Posted December 27, 2006 No, I used no filters. The lens was a new Zeiss 50mm f1.5.

After renaming them as NZP files on my desktop, they stay greyed out when I browse for the files to install them. I tried dragging them directly into where other NN profiles are stored and loading but still no luck. I have previously had no trouble loading profiles for my Sony DSC-R1. Any thoughts?  Wilson
bradhusick Posted February 12, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted February 12, 2007 Wilson, Make sure they end up being named something like m8_2500_tungsten.nzp and then drag the file into the Plug-Ins/NoiseProfiles folder of Photoshop. Â Other than that, I am not sure what would cause this. -Brad
wlaidlaw Posted February 12, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 12, 2007 Brad, I now know what the problem is but not the solution. When you rename the profiles in Finder (the Mac equivalent of Windows Explorer), the .txt suffix is retained as a hidden attribute. It is not visible in Finder but when you drag the profile into another programme e.g. as an attached file to an email, the second suffix appears so that the profile looks like m8_2500_tungsten.nzp.txt It is therefore hardly surprising they will not install. I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of the second suffix but with no luck. I have emailed Picturecode to ask if they have any ideas. I will explain how as it may help other Mac users. I stoked up the boiler on an old Windows computer, transferred over your .txt profiles on a memory stick, then renamed them to .nzp files in the command window using MS/DOS - that got my memory working remembering how to do that. I then reloaded the renamed files to the memory stick and loaded the profiles from that into one of my Macs - success. Many thanks.  Wilson

(The hiding of extensions in OS X is a feature, but can cause confusion when working with files.) In OS X all you need to do is go to Finder and change a preference. Go to the Finder. Select Finder --> Preferences --> Advanced. And check the "Show all file extensions" checkbox. Then you can see extensions in the filenames and edit them to your heart's content. In my opinion it's a good idea to always leave this box checked so you can see full filenames. See screenshot. Cheers. --Will Welcome, dear visitor!
