"The M3 viewfinder doesn't support 35mm lens natively. Either you use a 35mm lens with "googles" on the M3 or you need an external optical viewfinder supporting 35mm framing.

Thanks Xelor. So, there are two VF frames visible with this lens. The smaller one is 135mm. Is the larger one 50mm?

Here are some pics and information:

This was the reason I bought a M2 (and no M3) which supports 35mm lenses without goggles or separate viewfinder - as I like to shoot wide.

"The 50 mm framelines are always visible. The viewfinder image is slightly larger."

Perfect - thanks again.

Congratulations Ghille Moire.

You will not regret buying an M3, and a good one at that.

The Leica 35mm lenses with "googles" for the M3 are a pain.

Until the introduction of the M2, the photographers of the day used a supplementary viewfinder in the accessory shoe.

Leica provided the SBLOO or 12010 which I have, however I use the Voigtländer 35mm Brightline Viewfinder 510111 as it has better modern coating etc.

Have fun.

An example of how the 35mm lens was used on an M3 or MP:

The most impressive drive was from Russia to Picasso's house in the south of France through Finland, Sweden, Denmark etc in less than twenty four hours.  DDD must have been driving flat out whenever possible.  In a Gullwing that was around 220-240 kph depending on the rear axle gearing.  Here is my uncle's car in which I passengered many miles as a boy.  There were only two in Australia in those days because only right-hand-drive cars could be road registered.

Wow, with that slow traffic and bumpy narrow roads a real Le Mans achievement...

Then moose crossing, ducks, pedestrians and all kind of slow, badly illuminated farm vehicles...

Hard to believe, the only thing he had in favour was that he must have been quicker than the police which had no speed control systems at hand back then.

DDD - Daring Dangerous Driver;)

Windy day, trying out a new lens (feels superb, very solid) with some Tri-X and M3...

So sad that this thread seems to have been forgotten....  Maybe I can bump it back up to the top with an old photo of my kit.

The whole Leica M3 kit by Scott Kucera, on Flickr

I miss seeing pictures of people's M3's.

Scott, I hear your call to arms...

Leica M3, single stroke (spring return, transitional), with Summicron 50 (type IV) and a much needed coffee break after finishing a roll of Tri-X.

Every time I'm tempted to sell my M3, I'm reminded it's simply too beautiful to let go.
