Asagaya Posted December 24, 2006 Share #1 Â Posted December 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all. This is my first time to post a thread to this forum. Just to let me share the status of M8, in Asia, Tokyo. I just received my M8 last weekend from Leica Japan, the first lot. Firmware v.1.09. Receiving two filters in February. That's all the same everywhere, I guess. Â Being an R-D1 user as well, I found M8 quite smooth and more ergnomic, although I found some vulnerability in operation of swithces, battery, etc. Also magenta problem is here (R-D1 has the same, but minor effect). Using suggested C1 setting, and IR filter (only for 50mm 1.4 ASPH at this moment), I do not see the problem seriously. As a whole, I'm quite satisfied with the camera. Â Here are some test examples taken last week and today. Â http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluefield/ Â Best

Asagaya Posted December 24, 2006 Author Share #6  Posted December 24, 2006 Hi.  Re:M8 test example.  The parade is called 'On-matsuri', simply meaning "THE Festival", of Kasuga Shrine in Nara, the oldest capital of Japan. Each year, the god of the temple comes down and enjoy and return. Big parade and performances like Noh follow.  For 28/2.8 ASPH pictures, I did not use IR filter. Processed by C1 LE, Leica_m8_JHR_v1. For 50/1.4 ASPH pictures, I used B+W UV IR Cut filter (Digital-Pro). Processed by C1 LE, Leica_m8_JHR_v1.  FYI:  Without C1 LE, Leica_m8_JHR_v1., PhotoshopElements, looks like this(magenta): see attachment.   With C1 LE, Leica_m8_JHR_v1., see URL: Welcome, dear visitor! MP3 Posted December 24, 2006 Share #7  Posted December 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Asagaya  The 486 filters work great on M8 to produce more accurate colors by removing IR contamination. We do not have any 486s stock here in Hong Kong right now. I was lucky to find a 43mm for my LHSA 50 Lux weeks ago.  I will be coming to Tokyo, Shinjuko early January. Have been looking for a 46mm 486 filter, are you using a 46mm 486? Can you shed some light on where can I get one in Tokyo? Thanks for kind advice and Merry Christmas =)  Cheers Matthew

Yodobashi Camera in Shunjuku (west), its camera shop has an import section. They should have one, but they didn't a few weeks ago. Try tel 03-3346-1010. I got mine(49mm) in Zurich, actually. Somehow IR filters are rare in Asia. Â Cheers
Dan States Posted December 25, 2006 Share #9 Â Posted December 25, 2006 I haven't bought an M8 yet, but can tell you for sure, on a Nikon D200 the bright areas on the buildings in the background would be blown out. This camera is looking better to me every day. I can live with the filter thing if the dynamic range is better than what we have now. Â Some really great shots, thanks for posting! MP3 Posted December 26, 2006 Share #12  Posted December 26, 2006 Dear Bernd  Thank you for referring Huppert to me. Though I can't read or write German. With the help of Vista Babel Fish online translator, I've surfed through Huppert's site. I found the 486 UV-IR filter 46mm in their catalog and sent an enquiry to them on the approximate shippment time. Many thanks for your kind advice.  Cheers Matthew
