lars_bergquist Posted September 11, 2010 Share #41 Posted September 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used a 75mm Summarit with my M8. Lovely lens, and it gave me that "100mm" field of view that I have always found so useful. But when the M9 came, I exchanged it for a 90mm Elmarit. I would have bought a Summarit but for the fact that I got this mint Elmarit at little more than half the price -- of the Summarit! That of course was pure luck. No way I would haul a 90mm Summicron around. The old man from the Age of the 9cm Elmar

ramosa Posted October 3, 2010 Share #43 Posted October 3, 2010 I went for the 90 cron asph to pair it with my 50 lux asph. Its an amazingly versatile combo. oh, how i hate to get a lesson in patience. i have a 50 lux and have been really wanting a 90 cron asph. but new 90 cron asph are fiction, at least in the united states. i haven't seen a single new one in stock at any of the normal places (b&h, adorama, popflash, etc.) all year. this has pushed me a bit toward pondering other 90s, including the cron pre-asph and elmarit. maybe, i should be patient and wait for an asph. ramosa Posted October 3, 2010 Share #44 Posted October 3, 2010 I Generally choose one of two kits when I travel - 28 Summicron/50 Summilux/90 Summicron or 21 Elmarit/35 Summicron/75 Summicron. richard: how do you find the size of the cron 90? some say it's too big, but i like the rendering. ramosa Posted October 3, 2010 Share #45 Posted October 3, 2010 I need to finance another beast (21/24lux) and I'm more of a WideAngle man.I bought the 75cron for a specific work, and after that I found myself using just the 35lux alone most of the times. Anyway, as to add something to the 75cron vs. 75summarit cause, the APO correction, together with the telescopic hood worth all the $ difference IMHO. I had the 90cron ASPH in the past, apart from the size/weight which should be evident since the beginning, the focus thread is IMHO a big disadvantage for the 90. Misfocussing is as easy as with the 75, but it's slower with the 90. It may be good for posed portrait or still scenes, but since I consider medium-tele lenses as "action" lenses for my kind of shooting I can't ignore that speed. my 2cents i keep hearing that focusing on the asph is prone to problems. how does this compare to the elmarit 90? same problems? or is one easier? thanks. As far as "prone to problems," who knows if it was the lens, user, or calibration that was the problem. I do not think one has a worse reputation than the other; I found them equally easy to focus. digbyhp Posted October 3, 2010 Share #47 Posted October 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can't personally speak from experience for the 90, but it's size mitigates against it as a travel & discreet street photog weapon for me. Even my 75 cron is at the limit of acceptable size, but has proved to be a faaantastic lens, and as stated in previous posts, pairs very well with a 35 cron. The 75 just always seems to place me at the 'right' distance from a subject - guess that's why it's called a portrait lens, but so easy to use for selective focus, or not. rsh Posted October 3, 2010 Share #48 Posted October 3, 2010 For me, personally, I do not find the 90 Apo Summicron too large.
Guest reiver Posted October 3, 2010 Share #49 Posted October 3, 2010 The 75 is nice for portrait. Its fine to have it, but no necessary. For film something like 21 + 50 + 90, or 35 + 90 is everything I need. At the end: You can shot nearly everything with 35 or 50 mm.
