Advertisement Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Hi pum pum, Take a look here 75mm cron or 90mm cron ??. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cliffp Posted May 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2010 The 75 is better for close focussing
Mauribix Posted May 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2010 If we don't consider the obvious difference given by the Focal difference, actually I prefer the 90cron Apo ASph for its "fingerprint", cloro rendition and bokeh. Anyway I choose frequently the 75cron 'cause I find it more "versatile" given the ability to close focus down to 0.7m. I tend to pair the 35 with the 75, (even if the 35+90 is good too). I find personally redundant to use 75 together with the 50. As to say, apart from the difference in the focal lenght, it may depends on which lens (lenses) you're pairing the 75or90 with. my 2cent. Shade Posted May 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2010 I went for the 90 cron asph to pair it with my 50 lux asph. Its an amazingly versatile combo.
pum pum Posted May 1, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted May 1, 2010 yes i agree with everyone here. i think it depends with which lens you want to combo. if you prefer the 35mm, it'll be no problem using the 75mm. if you prefer the 50mm, many will go with the 90mm. my conclusion is "you must see which starter lens do you have" do you agree?? lars_bergquist Posted May 1, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I went for the 90 cron asph to pair it with my 50 lux asph. Its an amazingly versatile combo. This was of course the standard two-lens outfit of the Screw Thread Age: The 5cm Elmar on the camera, the 9cm Elmar in your jacket pocket. It worked. It works still (though you have to be an Eskimo to fit a 90mm Elmarit or Summarit into your pocket). But just as different people come to regard either 50 or 35mm as their 'standard lens' (or even 28mm, in the case of Jonathan Slack) this preference comes to influence our choices of further lenses. I am very much a 35mm man, so I have precious little use for 28mm. If I need something wider than 35mm, it will have to be wider than 28mm. On the other hand, I would feel handicapped with Brett's choice of 35+75mm -- I go for the classical 35+90mm 'globetrotter combo'. But Brett is obviously a '50mm man'. All this is utterly personal, and cannot be reduced to a rule or formula. We see much more with our brains than with our eyes (which see precious little) so seeing is ultimately a matter of psychology -- and thus ultimately personal. tgray Posted May 1, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 1, 2010 The 75 seems to be a more flexible lens, what with it's smaller minimum focus distance and floating element. On the other hand, if you need the bit extra reach of the 90, then you need it. If you have a 50, I think I'd skip the 75 and just go to the 90. If you don't shoot much with 50, and instead use a lot of 35, I'd consider the 75 unless you have a reason not to. But it's all personal preference. Mine is that I don't like having lenses spaced too closely together.
rsh Posted May 2, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 2, 2010 I Generally choose one of two kits when I travel - 28 Summicron/50 Summilux/90 Summicron or 21 Elmarit/35 Summicron/75 Summicron.
doug_m Posted May 2, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 2, 2010 In my experience the 75 cron wins hands down. I have bought a 90 AA twice and will probably end up selling the 90 twice as it just gets killed by the 75 when it comes to versatility and the way the 75 draws. The 75 IQ is superb and being able to focus down to 0.7M is huge. The 75 is pretty darn small and the M9 allows for lots of cropping. The 75 cron is also a great portrait lens on the M9. Hank Taylor Posted May 2, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 2, 2010 What was said before is Ok however, when it comes to lens I still like shooting with the 50 mm and forget about trying to take more lenses, I own a new 75mm APO f2 which is fantastic and a 90mm 2.8. I think that we tend:mad: to collect lenses and forget to partakes in taking pictures. Hank

For me, the 75 is uncanny in its ability to render amazingly sharp isolated areas while yielding wonderful creamy oof areas. more so than any other lens i have ever used. Ironically, I sometimes struggle with its focus relative to the 90 and I don't find the size difference to matter. last, I find the 75 to be a better focal length for portraits. I keep coming back to the 75 Summicron on M9, it does almost everything... sharp, out of focus, low light, close up, ASPH, APO, floating elements, compact... the only down side are those pesky frame lines! lars_bergquist Posted May 2, 2010 Share #17 Posted May 2, 2010 If closeups matter, then look here: 75mm at 0.7m = 1:7 (168 x 252mm) 90mm at 1.0m = 1:8.9 (213 x 320mm) So the 75mm Summicron has a very slight edge in reproduction ratio. But for closeups, 90mm does as a rule give a more advantageous perspective. Being forced to come up very close to the subject is often a real disadvantage, even in those cases where the subject does not bite. doug_m Posted May 2, 2010 Share #19 Posted May 2, 2010 PS. For me, the 75 cron is very easy to focus and the 90 cron AA is not. Good luck.
gib_robinson Posted May 3, 2010 Share #20 Posted May 3, 2010 For me, weight/size are issues because I often put the lenses in vest pockets, so if I'm walking around I will often carry 35, 50, 75 summicrons. I don't like carrying the 90 'cron when I'm walking. I also don't carry a 135mm, although I own one. Is it limiting to have three lenses so close together. I don't find it so. If I carry a 4th lens, it is likely to be a 24mm. I almost never go without the 75mm because of its versatility.
