pippy Posted April 19, 2023 Share #19545 Posted April 19, 2023 Hello again everyone! No, John and Wilson; neither a Vauxhall nor a Holden. I must clarify/correct a comment I made a few posts ago. Depending on which 'source' I've read it seems that this incarnation of the model WAS, in fact, still in production in 1950. Previously I had read that the much-facelifted version came out in that year but this older style was produced up until the model-change. Apologies for this error! To make amends I will post something (possibly) more helpful; the front! I've retouched the shield's 'Elements' but left the rest in situ; Welcome, dear visitor! Ivan Goriup Posted April 19, 2023 Share #19549 Posted April 19, 2023 Could this be a circa 1948 or '49 Kaiser -Frazer sedan.....the fit of the waistline chrome trim would tend to corroborate my guess. JZG

JZG Spot-on, Ivan. Congratulations! It is an example of the luxury-line 'Manhattan' version of the 1949 Frazer sedan from the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation. Introduced in 1946 the Frazer (along with Crosley) was, according to Wiki; "the first American car with new envelope body and fresh postwar styling. The new Frazer won the Fashion Academy of New York Gold Medal for design achievement." Sadly a certain degree of management disagreement and incorrect guesswork led to production of the range finishing just a few years into the 1950's. The car pictured is reckoned to be one of only three Kaiser-Frazer cars in the UK and the sole example of the Manhattan. It was acquired just a few weeks ago by a very good friend who bought it as a birthday present to himself (as you do). He took me out for a short spin in the beast a couple of days ago and mixing-it up with the traffic of south London was an absolute hoot! All I can say is Good Luck with any restoration work which might be required... A few shots of the whole to finish off; Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted April 20, 2023 Share #19553 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) Porsche Tractor. I lust after the Super 4 cylinder version of one of these but they are now close to £50,000. They come in 2, 3 and 4 cylinder versions. The earlier from 1938 are not actually made by Porsche but designed by them. They were made by the German company Allgaier GMBH and the Austrian company Hofherr Schrantz. Porsche took over production in 1956 due to being dissatisfied by the quality from those two companies. By 1963 sales had fallen to a trickle and Porsche decided to cease production. They became rather underpowered and "spindly" in comparison to the competition from the big tractor makers in Germany like Fendt. Ivan Goriup Posted April 20, 2023 Share #19554 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) You're both correct. A Porsche 'Junior' tractor, as displayed by a friend of mine ant the last Rennsport VI Reunion at Laguna Seca. Since IkarusJohn was correct first it's his turn to post the next puzzle. Note; For some infathomable reason I'm unable to show the entire image from which I cropped the above, therefore the photo below is of another two PORSCHE tractors, with the right-hand unit representing the 'Junior' model, similar to my friends. You should have told that Porsche back in the 1960s 🤪 Not only 'show cars', but during RR VI they also did a stint as race cars, when there was a less-than-one-lap race for the tractors. They went from the starting line after a traditional LeMans start where the drivers sprint across the track to turn 4, which took the winner around 15 minutes ( the track record is currently held by a Senna McLaren at about 1:27. Not my photo....... but it was grand fun. The organizers did not want to take the time to do an entire lap and felt the 'Corkscrew' just befor the final corner might be a tad too dangerous for these agricultural bolides. Ivan Goriup Posted April 21, 2023 Share #19560 Posted April 21, 2023 Allow me to take a crack at posting the next mystery car, and hopefully it will take a little more sleuthing to nail this one, as opposed to the tractor ply. It's possible I may have posted this car as a puzzle once before - if I did please forgive the senior moment. The usual info, if you please. JZG Welcome, dear visitor!
