wlaidlaw Posted November 20, 2022 Share #18762 Posted November 20, 2022 Sorry went straight from sick bed to friend’s 50th wedding anniversary in Rome, where sadly spent much of stay in my hotel room. Can anyone assist by taking up the baton. Wilson

a.j.z Posted November 21, 2022 Share #18764 Posted November 21, 2022 The car is relatively rare but I would be surprised, if the usual crowd here has not seen one.

Agree, I would be surprised the usual crowd hasn´t seen a ninefivenine before. Maybe they just forgot the maker´s name, hence couldn´t answer. NigelG Posted November 22, 2022 Share #18766 Posted November 22, 2022 (edited) My friend has a lovely white Komfort version - but I currently don't have anything to post... They were filming a 60's or 70's style movie on E65th street and Madison in NYC the other day and I was allowed to walk through the "set" to my apartment on 5th but I didn't have Leica with me - must get a Leica cell phone! - lots of beautiful metallic green, sable and gold large vintage sedans of various types decorating the road and I realised I could have racked-up a store of "Name this Car" images... Tom Hollander was resplendent in a bold check coat and trilby hat /briefcase combo so I'm guessing he's some kind of CIA/MI5/Gov Attache in a this-is-how-the-UK-f'ed-up role.... If you want someone to "pick up the baton" it might help if you would mention the street the wedding is on & what time the person helping should be there. Best Regards, Michael

Rona!d Posted November 22, 2022 Share #18769 Posted November 22, 2022 I must admit that the tight crop was well set. Best you could do with such a car. And the unusual color wasn´t helpful as well. Not that I had trouble to determine it but it needed a second look.

I was fairly sure the rear light was '911-inspired' but the crop threw me completely off-kilter as I thought the bit running-off to the right of the lens was the rear of the car and not the side! Well-cropped indeed, Andreas! Philip.

a.j.z Posted November 22, 2022 Share #18773 Posted November 22, 2022 If I could choose a car in this price range, this would be it, although I maybe would prefer silver.

I applaud everyone involved in the belief, the design and, vitally importantly, the financing of this project for having the will to allow it to come to fruition. Its like will rarely - if ever - be seen again. Philip. Edited November 22, 2022 by pippy
NigelG Posted November 23, 2022 Share #18775 Posted November 23, 2022 Not sure but IMHO quite a rare colour for a 959…. One of those cars where the “halo” effect displaced straightforward economics as per Pippys post. If I was a VW group accountant I might be poring over the Bugatti numbers….😀
wlaidlaw Posted November 23, 2022 Share #18776 Posted November 23, 2022 It is amazing to think that just a few years later the regular Porsche 911 Turbo S, with factory option code 550 Metzger engine, did everything the 959 did, was faster, handled better and was less than half the price. The only missing element was the exclusivity. Lovely colour for a 959 and so much better than boring white or silver. Wilson

Andy Wallace said that they actually broke even on the Chiron cars, which was a first. I asked Andy how much each huge Chiron gearbox cost (made by Ricardo in the UK). He said that was confidential but that you would have enough change from buying a Bentley Continental to buy a Golf GTI as well, from the cost. Bugatti is now nominally owned by Rimac, the Croatian electric supercar maker, although this operates as a financially supported/subsidised division of Porsche and is therefore nominally no longer part of the VW group. But boring white or, particularly silver, are a lot easier to keep looking clean. After 3 black cars in a row 12 years ago I gave up Lovely looking car, though i do prefer the narrower beam (backside) look of earlier 911 generations. 2

My 1977 911 RSR has at least as wide a derrière as the 959 but of course, they are the only driven wheels 😀 Wilson
