hektor Posted April 30, 2018 Share #10914 Posted April 30, 2018 That looks a lot like a Bristol JZG Well done John, particular as Bristols were not imported in to the USA. Both the 400 and the 401 had the same wheels, so as to be fair, here is the complete photo of the only Bristol 400 with coachwork by "Carrozzeria Pinin Farina". Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted April 30, 2018 Share #10915 Posted April 30, 2018 Thanks, Hector. I was actually born and grew up in Europe, and my father was quite the 'carguy', who enjoyed some of the more sporty offerings that became available after WWII to those with connections, interest and a little money. He particularly liked the Bristol 400 series, since they were essentially highly refined BMWs built in England, and he had a great deal of favorable experience with BMW aero motors, dating back to his earlier days as a high-ranking officer in the Royal Yugoslav Air Force. So, as the next puzzle car - in the immortal words heard at the start of each Monty Python's Flying Circus episode....................."and now, for something completely different". Make, Model and approximate vintage, please. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! Graham (G4FUJ) Posted April 30, 2018 Share #10916 Posted April 30, 2018 VW Schimmerwagen (probably not the correct spelling) circa 1940'ish?
hektor Posted April 30, 2018 Share #10917 Posted April 30, 2018 Typ 166 Volkswagen Schwimmwagen
John Z. Goriup Posted April 30, 2018 Share #10918 Posted April 30, 2018 Hector's is the correct answer, but Schimmerwagen sounds enough like Schwimmwagen to probably qualify as a correct answer as well - I'll leave it to you gents to sort out who posts the next one. I understand over 15,000 of these were built, but only about 150 or so remain in operation worldwide. This is one of a small handful in the US, shot at the now sadly defunct Marin County Concours in California few years ago. Thanks for playing. Welcome, dear visitor! a.j.z Posted May 1, 2018 Share #10919 Posted May 1, 2018 Graham, as you suspected the spelling is a little incorrect. What you wrote actually means glimmer car (instead of swim car), but I still understood what you meant ;-)
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted May 2, 2018 Share #10920 Posted May 2, 2018 Thanks Andreas, I knew it didn't look right. Never seen one in the metal. Built an Airfix plastic kit of one during my early seagoing career - couldn't remember the spelling. Despite being at Prescott hill climb last weekend (in an official but non photographic capacity) I'm afraid I have nothing to post. So hektor the next one is down to you Sir!
