Hearty congrats, indeepthought, for spotting this 'puzzle car'. I have never seen one of these 'in the flesh' and those which I've seen in photographs were later versions with noticeably more pronounced extremities so didn't even know what it was with 100% certainty until I got home tonight and had a google. It is a 1984 (first year of production) Pontiac Fiero SE. Whole thing; Welcome, dear visitor! With the mention of "loveable" I had originally - and automatically - been thinking along the lines of an A-H 'Frogeye' Sprite but various things don't appear to add-up so now my thoughts are heading more towards a Triumph such as a Spitfire Mk. There were various different models and many cars had owners tweaks etc..

Back in the late '70s the best mate of my brother had one. We would occasionally head out to the hills (and country pubs!) of central Scotland three-up; me backwards-facing sitting on the floor behind the seats with my legs stretched-out under the boot... pippy Posted September 14, 2023 Share #20569  Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) OK. On the assumption that it IS a Frogeye and it is my turn to post something then here goes. Usual stuff but I expect a few 'giveaways' will be neccessary later on to narrow down exactly which vehicle / version this one is; Welcome, dear visitor! Having said that I must point out that the Jaguar XJ enjoyed a remarkable 51-year(!) production life from 1968 to 2019 so perhaps narrowing things down in terms of date slightly will win the coconut? The job I had at that time, I was part of a team that visited the Jaguar factory, the R&D team often used SWL’s XJ to try out mods etc.. (Common knowledge) the car was sitting there and the 3 in our team looked in awe, the Jaguar guy offered us the chance to sit in SWL’s XJ6. Hood up, engine purring, huge smiles ensued. I’ve also sat in the Old Kings (Queen Elizabeths grandfather) Lanchester. 😎 1
a.j.z Posted September 15, 2023 Share #20576 Â Posted September 15, 2023 This could be a X300 produced from 1994 to 1997 (my father-in-law had one) but potentially also the successor model (they are very similar).

You are just one model-digit out with the first part, Andreas, and just one model-generation out with the second! Well done, Graham. It is, indeed, the X350 generation of the XJ. This one dates to 2004 and is the Super V8 variant. A couple of snaps of the full thing; Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I have no idea how 'good' this iteration of the XJ was / is but this example - finished in gleaming Black paint - certainly had Grace and Presence to spare; my snaps don't do it justice. When I was taking the pics the car two passers-by and one motorist all stopped to have a better view... Thanks for playing folks and over to you, Graham, for the next puzzle!
