OK; here's something in the interim just to keep things flowing.

I came across this little runabout, at the weekend, just a few streets away from my house. It must be a 'New Resident' because I've never seen it previously in the 15 years I've lived in the area. Only had the Monochrom with me so there will be no colour shots but that wouldn't really help much as the car isn't in it's original paint.

The 'Usual' info please (and no; I don't mean about the Toyota!);

...These are two separate cars, aren't they?...

Yes, Stuart, they are two different vehicles. The Toyota is in the background and the other - the Mystery Car - is in the foreground.

The car in the background is a 2015 Toyota 'Aygo' (in Red) and you are absolutely correct in thinking that the car in the foreground - the Mystery Car - did, indeed, originate on 'your side' of The Pond.

Chevvy Bel-Air C.1956?...

No, Wilson, it is not a Chevrolet nor does it date to 1956. The mystery car is a creation from slightly more recent times.

A second crop?

Roughly 1970 Ford Galaxy

No, Stuart, but yourself and Wilson are pretty much book-ending the actual timeframe so we are all getting closer!

This next crop is probably a bit too much of a give-away;

For now, let's stick with the ford but move the date to '61.

You are getting closer with the date, Stuart, although the car is a few years younger than your last year would allow. It is not, however, a product of the 'Blue Oval'...

A more generous crop?

Hmmm....

Knowing next to nothing in specific detail about USA cars of the '60s I had expected this one to be "weel-kent" as the manufacturer is not only one of the oldest from that country but also one of the most celebrated.

Perhaps I've been too restrictive in the clues posted so far so here is something which shows a bit more of the frontal aspect (the car in the background is a Toyota Aygo);

Cadillac?...

Correct Lelmer; it is a Cadillac! For the 'Cigar' can we work out which model of Cadillac and which 'generation' of that model? And yes; not only could the Aygo fit in the boot of the Cadillac it might be possible to squeeze-in the house behind it as well...

A full-frontal shot showing the whole thing;

At which point - having just checked the Wiki entry - I see that this generation wasn't actually discontinued until 1970 which year was mentioned by Stu in post #20506 therefore although this example is a fair few years older it could have dated to 1970. Apologies to Stu!

Wiki told me it looks like a Cadillac Series 60 Special from ca 1965...

Wiki is absolutely correct, Lelmer, in that it DOES look like a 1965 Cadillac Series 60 Special!

To be perfectly frank I can't be 100% certain whether it is such a car or the slightly more down-market '3rd Generation' (1965 - 1970) DeVille in four-door form. There IS some specific model-badging designation on the rearmost part of the side-view but I can't make it out from the pics I did get and didn't feel comfortable with the prospect of snooping-around any more than I had already done. Very mysterious. I'll post a greatly enlarged crop showing just the badge and if anyone can clear this up I would be happy to learn!

In any case these models mentioned, badge-engineering apart, are effectively 'Two Peas in a Pod'. Whichever model it is the DVLA tells me that it was, as guessed, first registered in 1965.

The Wiki entry for the DeVille followed by that of the Series 60 Special;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_de_Ville_series

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Sixty_Special

It so happened that I was to drive down the same street yesterday and so took along my 'colour body' in order to get shots of the badging as well as a decent colour pic but, sadly, the car was nowhere to be seen. Anyhow; here's a couple of snaps of the whole shooting-match and the aforementioned badge detail;

@pippy That is some barge! :D

:lol:

I've no idea what it must be like to drive around the narrow, tight streets of central London. I'd also hate to be responsible for 'feeding' the beast as she is powered by a seven-litre V8......:blink:......

Apparently it was designed by none other than the legendary Bill Mitchell. I dislike the overuse of terms such as 'legendary' but in his case the epithet is more than apt.

I'm going to be driving along the same route in a very short while so I'll take the Colour camera just on the off-chance...
