I don't know that a front 3/4 view of the two cars would show anything different.

wlaidlaw Posted July 18, 2023 Share #20309 Posted July 18, 2023 They also made the Bradford van with half of the engine, a flat twin. When I accompanied my father on a raw wool buying trip to Shetland aged 11, I wanted to go to Scalloway to see the harbour where the "Shetland Bus" Norwegian fishing boats with partisans and SOE agents on board had operated during the war. There had been a drama-documentary serial on the BBC Light Service about this and it had really caught my attention. There were no rental cars available but my father's agent offered to lend my father an ex-Navy a Jowett Eight pick up truck, the predecessor to the Bradford. It was not in its first flush of youth, dating at a guess from the mid 1930's and had been used since the end of the war for transporting fish. My father was not best pleased to be driving this worn out, slow and smelly truck with no shock absorbers across the then unpaved Shetland roads and the journey which should have taken about 20 minutes took a lot longer. When we got to Scalloway there was nothing to see. Unlike today, no monument and no museum. Wilson

On the basis that I don't know whether you named the car accurately here is a second crop which should help matters considerably; Philip. wlaidlaw Posted July 18, 2023 Share #20311 Posted July 18, 2023 I assume Mokes must still be being made somewhere, as they remain available for rent in various holiday destinations. I cannot believe that a 1960's BLMC product would still be running 50+ years later as a rental vehicle. I don't know what a Moke would now use for an engine as the BMC A series has not been made since around 2002. Maybe a Nissan Micra engine or Hyundai. I didn't even know that there was such a thing until I came across this example just a few weeks ago sitting beside the old harbour in Dieppe. I thought it didn't look quite the same as I remembered so crossed the road to have a wee look and take some snaps. Not finished in the nicest colour from the photographic side of things but an interesting car! The range is something chronic - a maximum of approximately 80 miles / 100km is claimed by the manufacturer - but for pottering about town it's quite a fun proposition. A bit about them can be read here; https://mokeinternational.com/gb-en/ A few general snaps (of p-poor quality I'm sorry to say but the foot-soldiers were already in the creperie and were yelling at me!............); Welcome, dear visitor! The Eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed, from having a good look at the second pic, that this E-Moke carries a number-plate with the department-designation '33' which indicates the vehicle is registered as hailing from the Bordeaux area. The distance from Bordeaux to Dieppe is over 700km. For some reason this took me back to my 'O'-Level Exam days.. Arithmetic Paper Part One. (1) How many times would an E-Moke need to be recharged along the way when the driver is undertaking the journey from Bordeaux to Dieppe if we know that...(...etc...etc...)... Over to you, Wilson, and thanks all for playing along! Philip. The clip was the first episode of The Prisoner, hence the reference to No. 2!

My brother is a huge fan of the series and has holidayed in 'The Village' (a.k.a. Portmeirion) several times. He was surprised (and slightly disappointed) to discover that the interior of No. 6's chalet in 'real-life' is nothing like that seen in the series which used a studio-set for all interior shots. Still; seems like a fun place to go! https://portmeirion.wales/ Philip. Edited July 18, 2023 by pippy

I should be grateful if someone else could step in. BTW they must rent out the E-Mokes in Barbados as I have seen one or two there. They also rent another beach car made in the far east by Geely or the like. They are called tourist lobsters because if they hit anything, they fold up like a lobster's claw with the occupants squashed inside - death traps.
