pippy Posted June 27, 2023 Share #20122 Posted June 27, 2023 Thanks Ivan. I'm not convinced the frontal aspect is completely harmonious but, of course, that doesn't matter ine jot! Absolutely spot on, Indeepthought, so Very Well Done and over to you for the next puzzle! Interestingly this is the first time I've seen a 240Z with faired-in headlamps 'in-the-flesh' although I had seen a few photographs back-in-the-day of some of the Sports-Racing-Prepared 'Z-Cars' sporting them. Couple of whole-car snaps to finish-off. I do still think the 240Z is a very shapely car. Not sure about the wire-wheels on show here. Then again why not? Welcome, dear visitor! It was across the 'lane' from us when we were queuing for the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry Sunday-before-last. I know the Manufacturer's name but that's about all. A check through the license-plate tells me nothing I didn't know apart from the fact that despite evidence to the contrary the car is actually painted black... Just for fun I will post snaps of it bit-by-bit according to the traditions of this thread. Hopefully we can have some fun with this one - and I'll find out what it is!!! Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted June 30, 2023 Share #20135 Posted June 30, 2023 The shape looks like the Chapman (Phil not Colin) Buick hill climb special but a bit too nice for that. The body of the Chapman Buick was made from epoxy bonded canvas, which made restoring it extremely difficult. It used a custom tubular space frame chassis fitted with an Allard de Dion rear axle to handle the power of the 6.5L Buick V8 engine. I rebuilt the engine for the people restoring the car in 1970 and fitted a Jaguar Moss gearbox in place of the original very sluggish changing GM 3 speed automatic transmission. stuny Posted June 30, 2023 Share #20137 Posted June 30, 2023 My thought was one of the British fiberglass kit assembled cars - there were a lot of them - but my knowledge of them is most sparse.
Rona!d Posted June 30, 2023 Share #20138 Posted June 30, 2023 Well, "British fiberglass kit assembled car" is just one part of the story. I thought it is just like that but there seems to be a lot more ingredients as it appeared to me. The owner of the car (and I assume maybe even the maker, as he seems to be in the classic car business) is in a club of a very famous British sportscar maker whos models are based on fiberglass, sometimes sold as kits but more often I think as complete cars. Partly very powerful models, very successful in their time. Now this car seems to be (partly) based on a more modest, lower powered model which was pretty rare. But aside it´s amount built that model was the design/engineering future of the donor vehicles maker(s). I just contacted that club to gather more substantial information for you guys. At the moment this is a mystery car even to me although I could name the model the owner runs it under at rallyes. This seems to be one of the rare riddle cars which is hard to google even when you have the full cars shot. This I didn´t know before I was trying to google it but I like this fact a LOT 😁
stuny Posted June 30, 2023 Share #20139 Posted June 30, 2023 I'll toss out a couple of names: Ginetta, Elva.
Rona!d Posted June 30, 2023 Share #20140 Posted June 30, 2023 Neither Elva nor Ginetta and about 10 years older than Ginetta is the maker of the design donor car. The technical side is probably a serial maker in larger scale than all mentioned makers. Although it does not look like that it is „possibly“ a one off. If you name the basic design donor car maker I‘d be fine. Who the real maker is I hope to find out if I get an answer from Italy.
