stuny Posted March 2, 2023 Share #19343 Posted March 2, 2023 I don't suppose the historic factor deals with placing first in the poor paint color competition of that year? A. more likely historic factor is this is a first production car of a strong selling vehicle, such as the Morris Motor AZach mentions.

To celebrate the 1000000th Minor in 1960 Morris made the first ever limited edition car to be sold in the UK in a production run of 350. The history and the amusing boardroom story of why they ended up being painted lilac is told in this article from Classic and Sportscar magazine https://www.classicandsportscar.com/features/why-morris-minor-million-lilac Welcome, dear visitor! Thanks for the link to the very entertaining article, Steve! Oddly enough many many years ago (probably mid '80s?) I had read an article on the Minor One Million published in either C&S or T&CC. I thought the Lilac paint-scheme was a pretty cool idea but had no notion of the back-story so that article has definitely filled a hole! Philip. It’s the sort of thing that could be in an Ealing comedy film isn’t it, an indictment of British car making in the 1960’s and what brought it down. Pyrogallol Posted March 2, 2023 Share #19348 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) I saw this one last year, with an appropriate background, looks like a 1960’s photo. Leicaflex type 1 with 50mm Summicron. I had a wooden Traveller version in the early 70’s. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! wlaidlaw Posted March 2, 2023 Share #19349 Posted March 2, 2023 When we went with our son on a school cricket tour to Sri Lanka in 2001 (3 days in a damp youth hostel on Hadrian's Wall was all my school ever did), one of the accompanying masters found that you could buy new Morris Minor 1000 Traveller body panels in Sri Lanka. He managed to persuade us parents to bring back enough panels to almost re-assemble a new car. Sadly he developed Guillane-Barre syndrome immediately after he returned following a stomach upset out there, which left him almost paralysed for a year, so I don't know if he ever rebuilt his Traveller.
