wlaidlaw Posted December 21, 2014 Share #7106 Posted December 21, 2014 It is a racing mini of some sort but maybe fitted with a different engine. I know a favourite was the Honda CRX VTEC engine. My wife had a 1996 Targa top two seat CRX VTEC Mugen R car (a Japanese market import), which produced a remarkable 175 BHP @ 8500 RPM from 1595cc and was 100% reliable for the 50,000+ miles she did in it. gmo Posted December 21, 2014 Share #7107 Posted December 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, A mini is right but not a racing one in the proper sense as for car races on a track. The engine is certainly worked on but still uses the standard block. So if no one comes up with an idea about the car I'll post the answer tomorrow. DigitalHeMan Posted December 21, 2014 Share #7109 Posted December 21, 2014 Based upon the decals, is it a Mini Cooper modified in New Zealand by Steve Murch, possibly the Project 64 Bonneville speed record attempt?
gmo Posted December 22, 2014 Share #7110 Posted December 22, 2014 Simon, Project 64 it is, this mini of 1964 holds a world record land speed in its category at Bonneville with an average speed over 146 mph. Details can be seen in one of the following pictures. And they go for a new attempt in 2015 during speed week. Over to you. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted December 25, 2014 Share #7116 Posted December 25, 2014 I would guess from about 1967-1969, when the coke bottle shape crossed over with the razor edge wings from an earlier era. However which of the USA's 4 groups made it I really have little idea plus of course, Studebaker was just about alive at that point. Those extreme razor edge wings are possibly more characteristic of Chrysler Group cars than the others. Wilson

stuny Posted December 27, 2014 Share #7118 Posted December 27, 2014 Most likely a Lincoln, but since US car manufacturers have a long history of shamelessly doing badge engineering to produce nearly identical cars up and down their lines, it could also be Ford or Mercury. Yes, it's a Ford Lincoln. Any idea of the model?
stuny Posted December 27, 2014 Share #7120 Posted December 27, 2014 If I recall correctly, the coupes were "Mark"s. Though the only one interesting to me was the first one (1957?) which was far smaller and quite handsome. Yours is from the 70s and impossibly big.
