Guy, your contributions to these Leica forums, along with those of Sean Reid among others, make my lurking (and occasionally chiming into) these places a pleasure. I was just commenting that, by your most recent postings, perhaps the M8 is fast becoming your main squeeze and your DMR may end up the sometimes neglected other.;) Kidding, of course!!!

LOL Yea the M8 is getting a lot of play lately. man is it hard to put down and a heck of a lot easier to pick up. LOL

My poor DMR is taking a nice welcome rest but starting tommorrow the vacation is over for it.

Rodger I can do that several ways with WB take a white card shot under that lighting and preset it but what i normally do in C1 is find the white podium sign or a goood greay than selet alll the images and bam they are all right on target. Than i may warm them slightly by lowering the kelvin. So yes even with a errant AWB you can get by very easily with a preset or in post with raw with C1 or even ACR and other programs. I know many are upset with the WB issue and for jpeg shooters this is a good concern , so for them the preset maybe the best option. This way it is set in camera under that light. If i could address this concern also with digital you really have to work it and just can't let camera's take over on you and this maybe a thread we should start is our role as shooters in the digital world. This is a thinking camera and as a shooter we simply can't rely on anything but our smarts and how to get what you want,It's a manual camera with manual mentality. hope that makes a little sense. I shoot leica becuase i want the control and i think folks forget why they buy leica to begin with and one is the lenses and the quality but really what seperates it from others is the simplicity and the control of it. That maybe a great thread to explore is the functionality of the working digital leica and us

Guy / Rob Thanks for getting me on the right path with the AWB issues. I am working hard to really understand the R9/DMR combination and settle on a process that I can count on. I have a great test environment..the local fishing pier at sunrise..has everything even throws in a little Fluorescent at the gate to test your patience. My objective is to "get it right in the camera" and to rely on post processing for improvements. Understanding "Best Practices" tailored to the R9/DMR is my objective. I certainly agree that the Leica products are designed for manual operation ..first...my Canon 5D is clearly designed for auto everything...both have a place but it impacts the best way to use each. It would be great to start a thread that focuses on best practices with the R9/DMR ...it needs a sticky and a clear charter to stay focused on the specifics of getting the most out of a R9/DMR.
