Dear Robert, first "happy New Year" and a lot of beautifull pictures !!

This fireworks is also beautifull; thanks !! Are there more DMR or M 8 fireworks pictures ?

Show them please on this New Years Day !!!

Rob, I think I was just lucky. Those were the only two good pictures out of fourty.

Now that the New Year is here, anybody in Germany want to call Leica and get a time frame on the new firmware for the DMR?

I too am joining the M8 crowd - the camera is on its way. Yes, the M8 DMR has its issues as does the DMR (mine took a coffee break shooting in NYC this past week in a cold morning...), but the quality of the images is just lovely.

Guy hit the nail on the head about how these two cameras complement each other - my own interests (I think) lie pretty much in the small, stealth wide lens camp, so I'm hoping to focus on the M8, and maybe the DMR will help pay for some lenses. On the other hand, the sheer beauty of the R8/DMR setup, the quality of manuf. and design, well, its not easy to part with.

Awaiting the M8 with 28/2.8.... I call it the stealth machine, MF in a small camera body.

Soon, a couple of days!

Geoff

Speaking of 1.3 fimware, I would love to see a couple of features added:

- Automatic LCD switching off whenever the shutter button is pressed.

Now if you use PLAY to review an image, the display remains on until you hit PLAY again, not very smart IMO.

- Faster zooming function.

Now the rendering of image when zooming takes forever.

Anyway I "downgraded" to firmware 1.1 and I'm definitely happier than with v. 1.2, thanks ! :)

You find 1.1. also better than 1.2 ? You had 1.2 on the DMR but I understand you have switched to 1.1. ??

I worked for 5 days with 1.2 and then I put 1.1. again on the DMR.

I am very curious how 1.3 is working. Greetings, Rob

Yes Rob,

I received my DMR with 1.2 installed, but I just went back to 1.1 because I didn't like the warm appearance on the LCD.

I read here and at Fredmiranda.com that many decided to hold on 1.1 and giving it is available to download at Leica site I decided to install it.

So far so good. :)

Ciao !

Has anybody in Europe called Leica about firmware 1.3? I called Leica NJ and they said it will appear on the web site before they know anything about it. It might be better if a call was made direct to Solms.

I think the people in Solms are very busy with the code on the M lenses and the rebuilt of the earlier m 8's.

Question: Who had worked with the DMR in rain ( little, heavier, ugly rain) and what was the result.

I have worked in havy rain with an umbrella but rain hits the DMR a bit. No trouble at all.

But I wouldn't work in heavy rain without protection. Am I to afraid ?

Thanks, rob

I would avoid the really hard rain. I used a R8 in a torrential downpour and water got in around the shutter speed dial. It made setting shutter speeds erratic. After it dried out everything was OK.

When it is at all wet, I always have a large microfibre cloth in my pocket and wipe off the camera when any rain gets on it.

Dear Robsteve, thanks for sharing your experience. I hve never used the R 8 or R9 swith the DMR in hard rain. Always an umbrella. Your tip of the large microfibre cloth is very usefull. Thanks a lot !!! greetings, Rob

was it a lot of water near the shutter ? How long must it dry before you could use it again ?

greetings, Rob
