I was slow to move on the M8 (just got it on Friday) and absolutely love it. Â Thanks for all the input you give. It is invaluable help. scanner Posted December 31, 2006 Author Share #103  Posted December 31, 2006 I am thinking to buy the M 8 also and keep my DMR. Do you think it is too much or can you understand the need of two excellent digital leica's ? Or am I starting to be crazy ?????   greetings with fireworks again on this day, Rob Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #106  Posted December 31, 2006 I am thinking to buy the M 8 also and keep my DMR.Do you think it is too much or can you understand the need of two excellent digital leica's ? Or am I starting to be crazy ?????   greetings with fireworks again on this day, Rob   If it is crazy than I am one of those also.LOL  No i don't think it is too much at all, they really compliment each other quite well and having both and the right lenses for both system you simply will not come into a situation that can't get the job done. The M wides are to die for and the R longs are the same. The DMR seperates itself with zooms, shift lenses, macro and long glass. The M is the wide package along with stealth, travel, weight and size and not to mention a different way to work with regards to focsing and viewing. If you can adopt both well into your style than you are ahead of the game. That is the key also is to be comfortable and the camera's just become a extension of your thinking and i think a lot of that get's lost sometimes with all the bells and whistles on some camera's. i love the simplicity of leica. i have yet to read the M8 manual because it is so simple to use and like the DMR they just become more in tune with your thinking of the shot than the gear. People miss that point a lot. it's not about the gear so much but how it is in tune with your brain
scanner Posted December 31, 2006 Author Share #107 Â Posted December 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Guy, once I had an M 4 so I am used with the rangefinder camera. The M 8 will come, that's now for sure. The simplicity of leica and the D 200 from Nikon as a example. The D 200 is not to use without reading the manual and the manual is so big and so much, I think is it not nice. A friend of my had bought the D 200 and as an example together we spend hours to learn how the camera produce the image on the screen direct after the shoot. Till today this question is not solved. And in Solms with the m 8 I worked with it after max. 10 minutes !!!

People miss that point a lot. it's not about the gear so much but how it is in tune with your brain  Guy that's a great point. I have a D200 for some autofocus work and if I don't use it often I have to go back and read the manual just to find what to do.  I got the M8 Friday and with two buttons set all the menu items. Enlarging the image to check focus is just what you would expect. Hit Play, turn the dial up or down.  There are people selling 800 page ebooks on just how to set and use the D200.  This M8 is so simple to use. I have not read the manual yet either...  Bill
scanner Posted December 31, 2006 Author Share #109 Â Posted December 31, 2006 Dear bnelson, can you help my friend to tell what he has to do so the D 200 gives an image on the screen immediately after the shoot. The DMR and the M 8 almost direct to work, the D 200 hours of reading.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #110 Â Posted December 31, 2006 That is kind of my point is if you have to think about the controls than your not thinking about the image and than you are lost . I had this trouble with the Canons and finally just turned everything off AF and everything else than started sticking leica glass on it . so what was the point. Get a leica that was much simplier to work and think about the image instead.
rsolomon Posted December 31, 2006 Share #111 Â Posted December 31, 2006 Guy: you mentioned a few items in the v 1.3 firmware for the DMR. How do you get this info ? and is the complete list available ? i also hope that there is plenty of Q/A on thisrelease. As you recall 1.2 was VERY short livied. Â here's my short list : Â better AWB faster buffer cleaner at higher iso's add 3200 iso fix the user profile smaller file size for raw change the mp resolutions for jpeg's from 10 / 5.5 / 2.5 / 1 / to 10 / 8/ 6/
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 31, 2006 Share #112 Â Posted December 31, 2006 Not sure i said exactly what was in it but more of what it needs to come out of it. But a leica rep did tell me what some of the things they were working on and those were the things we asked for. Better AWB, Stop the continous shooting issue with WB, better LCD readout and clipping highlights. Noise and such not sure if there working on that and better buffer but certainly would be nice. I wish I could remember our orginal list of fixes because i know there is something else. I will check with my local leica rep and maybe get some more info onit. BTW folks you should try to get to know your local area leica reps through the camera stores that are local to you (demo days are really good for this). They are always very helpful with questions that you may have and that they can answer for you. Mine is a peach of a lady and very well versed in leica. bnelson Posted December 31, 2006 Share #113 Â Posted December 31, 2006 Scanner... Â Hit MENU, get to the PLAYBACK MENU, select it, then scroll down to the Image Review, select it and choose YES. Â Somewhere else in the multi tier menu system is the amount of time the image will stay in review mode before going off. I just can't remember where. Â That is the main reason I like the Leica simplicity. With the M8 I set all this up on Friday without reading the manual. Â Intuitive almost.
