I have had no problems at all reading v1.2 formatted cards with OSX 10.4.8.

 

The images do tend towards "warm" though...

It might have been fixed in later versions of OSx. When the 1.2 firmware came out there were a few people that complained their Mac would not read the cards.

the 280/4 Apo I bought used (non ROM) is slighty soft wide open, only at f/8 it is sharp, though again not on par with, say, the 100 Apo Macro.

 

Do you think that at Leica they could adjust a "bad" sample or maybe it is better to find another copy ?

I'm not a pro and I could live without the lens for a while.

1. Do you live in Europe or the states ? You must look at all the costs of sending and the costs of adjustment or repair. The 250 mm. apo is one of the finest lenses !!

2. So you can ask for the costs and will it be to bad then you can always decide not to do it. And when the cost are not to bad take also a ROM on it !!!!!!!!!!

3. Take the newprice and your used price that you paid. And then you must decide to which amount you let repair/adjust it. Maybe the last owner had an accident with the 250 mm. Greetings, Rob

My G 3 gives troubles with the cardreader with 1.2. my G 4 doesn't !!

Don't worry Andy, I made much bigger mistakes due to late hours... :)

 

So it is not firmware related and I guess I can go back to 1.1 without issues, thanks!

With the using of ROM Leica has measured each F number and every F number isn't exact so the ROM has inside for each F number the difference between the right number and

the real number. So with ROM you works very precisely. When I was in Solms to give all my lenses a ROM chip they explained it to me.

I heard the same when ROM lenses were introduced: more precise aperture in any automatic mode (maybe also in manual?) on the R8-R9, because the camera compensates for every tiny bit of errors in actual aperture.

 

I'll ask Leica how they charge for a complete revision of my 280 Apo.

I live in Europe and I already contacted Leica for ROMing a couple of lenses.

They ask about 300€ each... no thanks.

But I'm also considering selling the lens to my dealer, who could take care of all these issues.

I'll need to find another one though, not an easy thing these days...

 

Btw, I have no issues with my Mac (OS 10.4.8) reading 1.2 formatted cards.

Don't forget, the transport costs by DHL (?) is also for the adjustment of your Apo. So when you send it in for both

points (adjustments, repair and the ROM) then it is 100% cheaper then send it twice !!

Just back from Christmas Holiday in NY sorry i did not answer sooner , took a little break. Anyway yes from what we asked them to improve was .

Better AWB

Acurate WB on Continos shooting mode

Faster buffer

I thought the Color and Clipping is pretty good on the 1.1 but they changed that on 1.2 so they need to revisist that , this is on LCD

Match brightness better between file and LCD

Yes i did visit ground zero but i went there in early Dec of 2001 also. very sad place to visit at that time. I spent a lot of time in those towers when i was younger. i will say though the memorial is very well done and the photography is breath taking.
