khun_k Posted December 17, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Took some pictures using the Carl Zeiss G Hologon 16/8 modified to use on M8 with excellent result. Extremely sharp, even to the corners - consider the how close the last lens element to the sensor. None purple color fringe found whatsoever. Even with Hologon enormous depth of field, the Hologon deliver true 3D picutres. K
Advertisement Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Hi khun_k, Take a look here M8 with Carl Zeiss Hologon 16/8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted December 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2006 Interesting, a good benchmark for the WATE to try to beat. You are still going to have the purple colour problem though, that pice of clothing in the mail box shot, is it purple or black? How could this lens be used with an IR cut filter? khun_k Posted December 17, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted December 17, 2006 Interesting, a good benchmark for the WATE to try to beat. You are still going to have the purple colour problem though, that pice of clothing in the mail box shot, is it purple or black? How could this lens be used with an IR cut filter? The clothing is purple, I have gone thru may be 1,200 shots so far, mostly heavily colored, or dark color, I did not notice the color shift is a problem on my M8. I did have some pictures in rare occassions to have strips of light in highlight/shadow area but that is about the only complain, except I do wish the shutter can be quieter and smoother. Optically the M8 performance is very good in my point of view. K
hankg Posted December 17, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 17, 2006 Wow, amazingly natural -no hint of wide angle distortion. I never thought I would want a lens this wide but these shots are making me reconsider.
Woody Campbell Posted December 17, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 17, 2006 Is this the version of the Hologon that went on the G2? I owned one and found it a real challenge - you're doing great work with it.
pelikan1931 Posted December 17, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 17, 2006 thanks for sharing, it would be interesting to see some pictures of the Zeiss ZM 15/2.8 on M8.
Dan States Posted December 18, 2006 Share #7 Posted December 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) You know what I like about this guys test shots? They are also great photography. Very refreshing change from the "pictures of my closet" stuff we are getting in the digital age. Thanks for posting!
Jamie Roberts Posted December 18, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 18, 2006 What Dan said! Khun, your shots are wonderful. I know this is weird, given the M8 is not about this, but have you had a chance to try it in the studio? I'd love to know what you think about it there. khun_k Posted December 18, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted December 18, 2006 thanks for sharing, it would be interesting to see some pictures of the Zeiss ZM 15/2.8 on M8. I don't have the ZM 15/2.8 yet, although I plan to get one may be sometime early next year. Yes, the Hologon was the version used to be Contax G mount, but I have it modified in M mount, no longer work on Contax G. I got 2 Hologon lenses, I plan to send another one to modify so my wife can also use it the same time so we don't fight over it. I post some more pictures today that were also from yersterday's shoot. All by using Hologon 16/8. K

I know this is weird, given the M8 is not about this, but have you had a chance to try it in the studio? I'd love to know what you think about it there. I plan to do some fashion shots and beauty shots sometime this week if I have time or I have to do that when I come back from New Year's trip. I have quite some beauty and studio works in my gallery that you are welcome to critic. I plan to use M8 for all these kind of shots to complete my test of M8.
