rollsman4 Posted December 17, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I want to use a leica lense for my Nikon D80 Digital. Is it possible to use the R lenses and use adaptor ? Also, using the R lenses will I get AF on my Nikon ? If not can I use a Contax Lense and adapt to my Nikon D80 ? and which Contax lense can I use. I read you can use the Contax lense from the NX camera. I dont need a zoom but a prime will do, ex. 28, 35, 50mm Lense. I am really curious about how good these German lenses can give me color and Quality wise. thank you, Dennis

stunsworth Posted December 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2006 Dennis, I don't think you can user the Leica R lenses on a Nikon. Using them on a Canon isn't usually a problem, but I don't think the flange to film distance will allow an adaptor with Nikon bodies.

Canon SLR's especially the 5D, produce amazimg images (color, conteast and sharpenss) using the Zeiss, Leica R and other non-Canon lenses. Good luck! telyt Posted December 18, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 18, 2006 It's possible to modify many R lens to fit a Nikon by replacing the lens' bayonet flange with a cusom-made flane to fit the Nikon body. You would not be able to use the lens on a Leica-R body unless the conversion is reversed (not hard to do). I've seen it done with a 50mm Summicron-R and in theory should be possible with any R lens that has enough mirror clerance. All it takes is money and lots of it The Leica lens on a Nikon body would have a manual diaphragm and would not meter at all on some bodies. harmsr Posted December 18, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 18, 2006 Can I make a suggestion? I believe the cost and functionality loss would be prohibitive. Go look at the new Zeiss ZF lenses for the Nikon system. They are wonderful, and what kept me in the Nikon system for my SLR along with the ergonomics of my D200 body. frc Posted December 18, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 18, 2006 I copy Ray's post, have been looking at these lenses myself, no M8 for me as long as fiters, profiles etc. are mandatory but a gain in quality for my Nikon dslr. This I think is the way to go for me.
slabwax Posted December 18, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 18, 2006 Hi, Here is a thread regarding the Zeiss lens on Nikon DSLR. It's over at Nikoncafe. http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=97690 Dean
Guest Juerg B. Posted July 27, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 27, 2007 It's possible to modify many R lens to fit a Nikon by replacing the lens' bayonet flange with a cusom-made flane to fit the Nikon body. Hi Doug Would you have an image of the exchanged bayonet? Who did the conversion? I wish to use Leica R lenses with a Nikon D70 body. The reason is that the CCD Sensor is sensitive to both UV and IR light. In the D70 the UV/IR Cut Filter is easily accessible and Nikon Service Workshop would remove it at a low cost. Actually I would even prefer to convert a Nikon body: Remove the Nikon bayonet and fit a Leica R bayonet to the Nikon body. I do not have any Nikon lenses at all. Kind regards Juerg
johnjs Posted July 28, 2007 Share #11 Posted July 28, 2007 You might try Andrew Nemeth's great website, he is a member here also and occassionally comments on these issues. There is an article there on the Nikon body conversion from the F-bayonet to the R. http://leica.nemeng.com/017c.shtml best-John
