Simon Gleave Posted December 17, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Attached are a couple of pictures taken with the DMR using a 16mm lens. I am trying to undertand why those at F2 are out of focus at the edges while those using f8 are ok Any ideas as to what the problem may be? carstenw Posted December 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2006 What lens is this? Not all lenses are sharp at the edges wide open.

Simon Gleave Posted December 17, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted December 17, 2006 The lens is a 16mm F2.8 fisheye - elmarit - R I also have found similar effects with all the lenses I use but they are most pronounced ith the wider angles
robsteve Posted December 17, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 17, 2006 Simon: I think it is just related to the qualities of the lenses. Few super wides are sharp at the edges wide open. The exception might be the 19mm ROM on the the DMR, but you need to have a good copy. What other wides are you having problems with? If you are shooting Leica wides, you can look up the MTF curve on the Leica web site. I think I once calculated that 15mm-16mm on the MTF curve is the edge of the sensor. If the graph take a big dip before 15mm, the lens will not perform as well on the edges of the frame. Robert
