Advertisement Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi robert_parker, Take a look here It's in the Bag 1+2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
abrewer Posted December 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi Robert! I kind of lean toward number two because I like the interplay of mother (?) and son before that interesting building in the background. Where is this, BTW? Thanks. robert_parker Posted December 15, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted December 15, 2006 Alan I know it's north east of the rue du Rivoli, heading towards the Bourse but it'll need Pascal or Steve to tell you precisely where !!
stuny Posted December 15, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2006 I agree with Allan. Very nice. I'll check with Barbara this evening to ask where it is (she took her masters in French Lit in Paris).
robert_parker Posted December 17, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted December 17, 2006 Alan and Stuart Thank you for your kind comments - I believe it's the Place Vendome !! Apparently the column is green because of a brass sheathing made from captured cannon at the Battle of Austerlitz
stunsworth Posted December 17, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 17, 2006 It's Place Vendome as Robert says just to the north of rue de Rivoli near Place de le Concorde. If this is facing north, then that's the Ritz hotel in the background - which reminds me of a rather 'sick' joke. The shops in Vendome are definitly of the type where if you need to ask the price you can't afford to buy the goods :-) The original column was erected by (surprise, surprise) Napolean as what I assume is an updated version of Trajan's column in Rome. Naturally there was a statue of him on the top :-)
