I just discovered my four cameras missing from my camera drawer:

Leica Digilux 2

Panasonic DMC-LC1

Panasonic DMC-FZ50

Hasselblad 500 C/M

I tried to call Leica to add my Digilux 2 to the stolen registry but wasn't able to get through. I think there closed now.

I post this here in case any member come across anything on the market that may be one of the cameras.

Sincerely

Hi Phillip.

This is terrible news and I am sure it is dismaying to you, coming as it does at the holidays.

Do continue to try and get through to Leica and notify them of the serial numbers. Rangefinderforum.com also has a stolen camera registry and I would encourage you to add your particulars to their list.

Do contact your insurer if you've not done so already. I've had items lost to theft from my home in the past, too; and though you feel absolutely helpless after the fact, the items are replaceable.

Thank goodness you weren't at home or attacked for them!

Good luck!

Allan

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Absolutely do contact the police and file a report.

I know it's a poor substitute for a Leica, but I have a Fuji S9000 that you could have rent-free use of to get you through the holidays. Drop me an email if this would be of use. I'm down in Long Beach, so it's not too far away.

Everyone,

thank you for your kind words.

It makes it that much easier.

I love this forum!

No insurance.

Stolen from a desk drawer in a business. Likely happened during business hours when back door was unlocked. Person in front of store helping customer.

Unfortunately the FZ-50 and the Hassleblad were not mine, they were on loan from friends.

Filed a report today with the LAPD. There are 7 cases in front of mine.

Will try Leica again tommorow.

Allan, do you have a link to the rangefinder forum stolen registry?

Looked, but didn't see it.

Feel strange without a camera.

Eric,

Thank you for your most generous offer. If nothing else comes to pass, I may take you up on that.

Philip,

I'm sorry to hear this happening to you. Particularly distressing with the borrowed cameras I imagine.

I wanted to let you know I'm keeping a close watch on LC1 and D2 on ebay. I guess asking them for serial numbers will yield no reply, but any D2/LC1 without the original box will stand out. Do you know the brand, model and size of the SD cards in the D2/LC1 respectively? Did they get the hoods; what kind of straps?

Hi Phillip.

Since Leica redesigned their website the "stolen Leica" page has been moved and the link from RFF is dead. However, I'd urge you to make contact with Dave Elwell at tech and ask him if it is possible to register your camera through the corporate intranet:

Contact person:

Dave Elwell

Phone:

800-222-0118

Fax:

201-995-1686

E-mail:

technicalinfo@leicacamerausa.com

You should be able to reach him during regular business hours Eastern time.

Keep an eye on eBay as others have recommended. Watch the classified area at Photo.net, and Photogon, and Fred Miranda's "Buy & Sell" area (the latter being a conduit for a tremendous amount of gear).

Don't hesitate to post as much as you feel comfortable here about the lost items: scratches, marks, engraving etc. and let the community be your extended eyes and ears in this regard. If you have photos of any of the gear put them up now.

Take comfort that we've all experienced loss at some point whether it was camera, jewelry, watch, electronics etc. It's just a hazard of our human condition.

Keep us informed.

Thanks.

Allan

Great advice Allan. Phillip just to get you to laugh. I dropped my 75 cron off a bench tonight shooting my son's Christmas play. See what i get when i do personal work. just a reminder shit happens and as bad as it is , you just have to keep your chin up.

Dear Philipp,

I am very sorry for you. I can understand what you feel very well since the same thing occured to me in Bilbao in the middle of september: R9/DMR, 19mm, Vario 28-90mm, 180mm, and 500mm, plus my personal documents...

And of course, no news. Spanish police doesn't care at all...

With all my sympathy

Gérard
