Email from Leica this morning proposing a date of 4 Jan 2007 to collect the camera. Suits me fine as I will then have the camera over the Christmas holiday period.

 

The bad news is that they are saying the parcel will be collected by GLS - a German company with a good reputation whose UK partner is the dreaded ParcelForce who know little and care less about customer service.

I got a telephone call this morning from Leica looking to arrange a date for pickup, I suggested after Christmas which was no problem, they came back with the 3rd January. She wanted to know if I had any questions and seemd suprised I had none. :)

Allen,

I contacted Leica about another problem with the M8, and they said to send it in to NJ, and they would send it on to Sohms for the upgrade. According to UPS, my M8 arrived in NJ yesterday. Not sure of the time frame, but will call them to see if I don't hear from them soon.

I shipped my M8 via two-day air from the west coast of the USA to New Jersey on 1 December. On 7 December, I called Leica Service USA and was informed that it, together with others, were being sent by air to Germany on Friday last (8 December). I don't expect to see it 'til after New Year's Day at the earliest. Leica USA is completely shut down Christmas week; Leica Solms works just two days that week, I think.

 

I duly registered the ailing camera at the Leica site on 6 December but, to date, have received no dispatches from anyone as a result.

 

The first person in the USA that receives confirmation of the alledged 30% discount offer from anyone in Germany, please log the event on this forum, eh?

I was quoted this discount this morning.

It's a pre-paid offer, buy the M8 now, and when it arrives you get up to 1200 EUROS (or 30%) as a lens discount.....

Thanks for that info Heidi. I find that I am not in a tremendous hurry to send the camera in. The problems to be fixed affect my shooting style less than others, and Id like to keep the camera through the end of the year. Also, I know that there has been some preliminary experience with the "fixed" camera, but it will be interesting to see even more experience.

I agree, it's the IR that's affecting my shooting far more, magenta all over the place, weak greens from vegitation and making the filters available is more important to me than the camera fix. I just hope they've got it right.

Allen,

Mine was freezing up and I had to remove the battery to get it to work again. :( I could work around the other problems, but decided this was worth sending in, even if I don't get it back till after the first of the year. I have my Digilux 3 and V-lux to tide me over the holidays. :)
