robsteve Posted December 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 14, 2006 Rob: Are you hooked after only a few frames with a M8? How did the images turn out that you shot on your own card? Here is one of the shots you took with the M8 I had:

Eoin Posted December 14, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 14, 2006 I'm expecting a call any day for the new batch, I'm 3rd on the list with 1&2 already got their 1st versions(silver) if it's any good to you. I managed to get one a few weeks ago so I don't need a second. I know fotofile (MBK) had 3 but was sending them back due to some issues. I'm in Europe BTW. lecter Posted December 14, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted December 14, 2006 I am seriously considering it. It's small enough to be really interesting... :-) Rob: Are you hooked after only a few frames with a M8? How did the images turn out that you shot on your own card? lecter Posted December 14, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted December 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) another dumb question.... is the best lens to get a 21/2.8??? For a beginner??
robsteve Posted December 14, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 14, 2006 Rob: I would start with a 28mm or 35mm lens. The widest you can see in the finder is the 24mm, which is the lens that was on the camera when you borrowed it. A Voitlander 15mm, the small wide you shot with, is less than $400 and a decent performer for the price. You need a 21mm external finder to use with it though. Are you sure that using the whole VF of the M8, outside the 24 mm brightline (32 mm FOV), does not give you almost exactly the 21 mm frame (28 mm FOV)? No, I am not sure because I cannot see the whole finder area. My limit is about the 24mm frameline. I can however see the whole 21mm framelines on the 21mm external Leica brightline. robsteve Posted December 14, 2006 Share #12 Posted December 14, 2006 so still looking for a recommendation... :-) Get the 28mm Summicron ASPH. You will like it. It is the best performing wide on the M. The 24mm you shot with is the next best performing. I probably cropped the shot showm above to about a 28mm field of view. robertwright Posted December 14, 2006 Share #13 Posted December 14, 2006 ...I'd like to see it upcropped if you mind, wonder what a "32"mm lens looks like. Not really a focal length I am too familiar with.. But it could be inbetween in a nice way. Like the 65mm on the mamiya 7 is almost the same. btw, while 'yall are talking about being 1 or 2 on the list, I am 36...

This was processed on a different computer so don't judge colour or exposure differences. It is full frame as Rob Martin shot it.
