I noticed nobody posted under this topic for a while, but I have a story so I will. :)

The sensor on my LC1 died recently after about 2 years of usage. THe symptoms were just like one of the users posted- a melted picture on both the LCD and the electronic viewfinder.

I sent my to USA Panasonic Corporate and they took a little while but were helpfull. Since my warranty expired I had to pay the full price for the repair but it was only about $160.00 which is not bad for a whole new sensor. You can find more information here

Where to Service Panasonic Products

I am still waiting for it to arrive but it should arrive today. I will let you know if they fixed it and what the status is.

Makes me wonder if we can get a D2's faulty sensor replaced by Panasonic. That price seems really reasonable.

My D2 just died today!!! :(

I was shooting in a swimming competition, a humide condition mentioned below. :(((

I hope I can get mine repaired free.

There have been recorded failures in humid environments, perhaps there is an association

As to the sensor, while Panasonic make there own sensors, if you take the wider view that these cameras were short run to test the market for L1, then perhaps the sensor was sourced from Sony who were at the time providing the 2/3" to many makers.

With respect John, they are doing the right thing here, they are accomodating D2 owners out of warranty on a redundant product, be happy.

Riley,

I think so. I had this terrible tripe image in the viewer (discribed on the first page of this thread) before everything fails. And I also noticed that my battery was drained before everything stopped.

I'll contact local Leica first thing tomorrow....

I love this camera. I don't want it to die just so soon.

I think my D2 read my mind. I was fascinated by the new Panasonic compact Lumix FX30 and thought of getting one as my pocket camera. He knew I was trying to be unfaithful so he just commited suicide....

you should be fine then

they usually do a little extra work like clean up the lens etc

And do they repaint the peeling marks on the lense?

Some of the numbers on my D2 is wearing off....

familiarize yourself with this thread

Thank you, I already printed it out.
