Sorry, guys, couldn't resist posting... Leica Mayfair Shop - had a play with this beast yesterday.

BTW, M8 Elmar 50/2.8 iso640 1/30 - not bad for a defunct camera based on aged technology...

Ergonomically it is a winner. I don't think it is too heavy (certainly no more than any large DSLR) and it has a very well built feel, great viewfinder and I was surprised at how well the controls work. Rather than trying to do it 'their way', I think Leica have conceded that millions of Nikon and Canon owners must know a thing or two about how controls should work. Difficult to have any view on image quality with only a rear LCD screen to view. That said, I could not for the life of me work out how to pan a zoomed shot on the LCD.

That, my friend, is one of those things of which they say 'you get used to it eventually'... it can of course be done but it isn't intuitively obvious how and is one of the very few interface issues that still makes pause for a microsecond...

Wow!! Is that the S2 leather case in the back? So the S2 folds to the size of a compact when needed?? Now, that's what I call engineering...!

Actually, that is the rather twee case for the X1, which is waaaaaaay too plasticky for my tastes. Definitely prefer an S2 to an X1 but I guess that my chances of owning one are slightly more than winning the lottery any time soon.

People who buy the S2 because they find the case for the X1 too plasticky probably are Leica Marketing's ideal target group...:D
