Advertisement Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Great Gable - just trying it out with an old favourite :). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
abrewer Posted June 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2006 Wow, Andy! I don't remember this one. Great picture. I'd love to be standing there on the rocks with you guys. Thanks. Allan
andybarton Posted June 22, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted June 22, 2006 July 15th... All welcome The lake that you can see in the distance in that photo is the infamous "Wastwater", as photographed into submission by Pete Taylor and me over the last couple of years. In the shot below, I was standing on top of the pointy one in the middle (Great Gable) to take that shot. This one was taken later in the day, after a pint in the pub at the base Welcome, dear visitor! starwatcher Posted June 22, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2006 Absolutely stunning! Pleas excuse my naivety - is this England or Scotland? Found great pictures from Scotland also on http://tawbaware.com/maxlyons/cgi-bin/image.pl?gallery=9 Seriously thinking about a photographic tour over there after I've seen Maxs' pictures... best - Klaus
andybarton Posted June 22, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted June 22, 2006 Klaus This is in "The Lake District" in Northern England. Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England is just to the left of the first shot, and to the right of the second. It's only a couple of hours from our house on a good day. I have tried to suggest that William L gets his old jalopy up there when he comes over next, but I think it's too much like bandit country for him It is the most beautiful place on Earth* There are more shots like this on my website. PS - your friend Max needs an X-Pan *Subject to independent verification...
abrewer Posted June 22, 2006 Share #6 Posted June 22, 2006 photographed into submission.... LOL! Don't think I can make it that weekend, unfortunately. It'll be a stretch for me and the Mrs. to join you guys in October, if we can. I do remember the second pic. Seems as though we had some discussion about cropping? That's my recollection.... Thanks. lambroving Posted June 22, 2006 Share #8 Posted June 22, 2006 Andy, These look good here too. I only wish Andreas could configure all the picture posts to display with the same dark grey you used in your first frame. I can't be bothered with making frames for every picture I post, nor do I have the software.
andybarton Posted June 22, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted June 22, 2006 William Hello? Am I reading this correctly? If you can't be bothered, then clearly you don't care how your shots are seen on the web. That is the only conclusion that I can come to. I know that you like a darker background. You CAN be bothered to use your ASPH lenses, then can't be bothered to put a darker grey frame round the images, yet consider that they look better when they are shown that way? Why? Sorry to sound so harsh. ASPH lenses cost thousands of dollars, grey frames cost nothing. Of course you have the software - even "Paint", the freebie app with Windows could do this for you if you wanted to. You could do this with Photoshop (use the "Stroke" function in the Edit menu) Even if you choose to stick with PSE and your PC, all you need to do is create a new image, larger than your shot, and fill the layer with 50% grey. Then, paste your image onto the grey background. So, if you have a 700 x 600 image, make a 750 x 650 grey background and paste the shot on the top. Then, flatten the image before making the final jpg. You don't need to buy full PS if you don't want (although, I think that you would benefit if you did) This frame was done with the software that I use to put my website together. It's freeware and Mac only.
abrewer Posted June 23, 2006 Share #10 Posted June 23, 2006 I think he's got you here, William. You can make frames already. It's in your PSE3 "Styles&Effects" under the "Window" tab at the top. Select "Frames" and it is an automatic action when you click on any one of the several shown there. If you ever took any time off and traveled in your own country, you could come out here and I would be delighted to show you how to do it!!! BTW, Andy, have you added a drop shadow? It kind of looks like it from here, but I can't be sure. Thanks. Allan
lambroving Posted June 23, 2006 Share #11 Posted June 23, 2006 Allan, I have PSE2 which came with my Digilux 1. It doesn't do frames..., and quite frankly, I can't be bothered with this stuff. It's hard enough for me to get my shots to display more or less the way I want in a browser at 250K for the web. I HATE COMPUTERS!!! Photography with an M is much more fun... andybarton Posted June 23, 2006 Author Share #13 Posted June 23, 2006 BTW, Andy, have you added a drop shadow? It kind of looks like it from here, but I can't be sure. Alan - yes there is a drop shadow there - it is part of the way that the Galerie software presents the images under the template that I use (It's called "Fashionably Boring", btw ). It is all done automatically by the software in few seconds for dozens of images.
stuny Posted June 24, 2006 Share #14 Posted June 24, 2006 Andy - Your including the three figures, and placing them where you did make this a fine winner. Stuart
gareth_c Posted June 24, 2006 Share #15 Posted June 24, 2006 I stayed in Borrowdale (sp?) many years ago on a school trip and climbed Skafell and others. My wife too loved her family trips there and these images have convinced me that we need to go back soon. Lovely Andy.
elansprint72 Posted June 24, 2006 Share #16 Posted June 24, 2006 I have to take issue with both Andy and William here: "This is in "The Lake District" in Northern England"; not if you were born there, this is neither a part of England or Scotland. "and quite frankly, I can't be bothered with this stuff." What a shame, after spending all that money on equipment, you just can't be bothered; although if I recall correctly you press the shutter and then hand over the making of the photograph to other people and that, quite frankly, is totally beyond me. "Photography with an M is much more fun... ". Than what? Presumably the Wasdale saga continues...... damn, I need to get home soon! Best regards to all, Pete
andybarton Posted June 24, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted June 24, 2006 "This is in "The Lake District" in Northern England"; not if you were born there, this is neither a part of England or Scotland. Whatever... Says England on my map. And has done for hundreds and hundreds of years. It's like saying Berkshire, where I was born, isn't part of England. Ridiculous. Next thing will be that there will be a war between Wessex and Mercia... pulease...
MrEd Posted June 25, 2006 Share #18 Posted June 25, 2006 Hi Andy, These pictures are worth a thousand words...Great shots. Thanks for sharing. Ed.
elansprint72 Posted June 25, 2006 Share #19 Posted June 25, 2006 Hmmm, so it is possible to edit posts after you've stuck 'em up. ;-) The Wessex/Mercia conflict looks ever more likely to me,but, hey, these things sometimes blow over. Is this your very best Wasdale shot? I seem to remember that you had an even more dramatic one. show us a few more. Cheers, Pete.
andybarton Posted June 25, 2006 Author Share #20 Posted June 25, 2006 It might not be the best Wasdale shot, but I have decided that, from now on, I am not going to clutter up this forum with stuff that I have posted before. Seems pretty pointless, really. Let's see some new stuff! (You get 30 minutes to edit, as before) (PS - you have a PM )
