volkerhopf Posted February 10, 2007 Share #41  Posted February 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a reply from panasonic australia...as follows------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for taking the time to contact Panasonic with your enquiry. Panasonic Australia is not aware of a Recall on the Australian Released DMC-LC1 cameras. This may be the case with overseas models, there is not issue with the Australian Versions.  If you have a fault with a DMC-LC1. It will need to be looked at by a Service Center. The closest Service Centre to a Post Code #5241 would be the following.   -------------------------------------------------------------------------  so, although im happy they finaly responded to a question, i feel its a bit of an impass, they seem to negate that there is an issue, but leave the door open if there is   Hi, one of the problems with Panasonoc service centers is that they want a service fee up front between A$ 80 to 120. If they don't agree that it is a Panasonic problem, then you are up for 80 bucks at least and quite a bit more if they have to exchange the sensor. Riley Posted February 10, 2007 Share #42 Â Posted February 10, 2007 yes I did complain that they didn't make a global response much like say Canon and Leica did with the same issue I guess now we know why I cannot hide my disappointment with Panasonic no need to add, there wont be a next time
sgegreen Posted February 10, 2007 Share #43 Â Posted February 10, 2007 David, thank you for the serial number information. I feel slightly relieved, as my LC1 serial number is not in one of the ranges quoted. Â Can anyone confirm that the failed LC1s were in the A4SYxxxxx, G4SYxxxxx serial number ranges? Â A friend is still waiting for his Minolta Dimage 5Hi with similar sensor to be repaired, and it's been away nearly six months. Of course, Minolta's camera business is now part of Sony, who made the faulty sensors...
Riley Posted February 10, 2007 Share #44  Posted February 10, 2007 Stephen i think 6 months is utterly criminal considering they made this mess happen  I have no idea about the numbers anyone interested in a thread on that ?
audidudi Posted February 10, 2007 Share #45 Â Posted February 10, 2007 Can anyone confirm that the failed LC1s were in the A4SYxxxxx, G4SYxxxxx serial number ranges? Â I can't confirm this but I can confirm that my LC1's serial number starts with G4SY ... although it's presently working just fine (and I live in a desert, where we don't have much humidity, which is said to be the root cause of the sensor failure), I'm now somewhat leery about its life expectancy and <sigh> will have to bring a backup camera with me every time I go out shooting with it as we all know that when it does fail, it will be at the worst possible time.
