And others, too. In fact any Leica digital other than the Digilux 2

We are still waiting for Apple to update the OS to allow the reading of Leica DNG files. There was a rumour that this may happen before Christmas, and this could still happen, but it might be worthwhile for every Mac user who wishes to use Aperture, to leave some feedback so that Apple can gauge the numbers of people involved.

The feedback page is here.

I used Aperture to process, print and manage all my Canon raws, It's just sitting there now waiting for the DNG and Leica support to be added. I love using it and it does (did) 99% of my workflow stuff. Waiting, waiting, waiting.

I've just submitted some feedback.

Aperture is a brilliant bit of software, but completely useless if your camera's not supported. I can't believe supporting all dSLRs isn't a priority for them. If Lightroom supports a camera and Aperture doesn't Adobe have got you hooked.

There may be some benefit in the delay, by the time raw support for leica dng files comes around they might have a better profile taking into account the Ir filter.

I emailed the aperture feedback and asked for profile support like there is in capture one. There really should be a way to select custom profiles for cameras in Aperture but so far it is not available. You can tweak their conversions and save that, but it is not the same.

Profiles would be handy, but just to support the DMR at this stage would be a huge leap forward...

I can see Profiles and Leica DNG support coming in version 2, then, at this rate. A £200 paid for upgrade, no doubt. I don't think I have ever bought software before that has actually been of no use to me at all.

Wow. I bought Aperture when it first came out, as a matter of fact I bought a Mac just to run it. I have found it to be truly excellent and I have just about every raw converter out there includeing C1 pro. Mind you up till now it has been for my 1DMKII and 5D stuff so I am getting anxious about my M8 stuff as it is building up. For now I convert in C1 then import into Aperture.

I added my bit as well.

I have actually been using Aperture with Raw + Jpeg and then using to it sort and rate the files, then I use C1 to actually convert them. This sounds weird, but I just did a big project with the M8 this way and it worked out really well. You do have to use a little Apple script to import both the DNGs and the Jpegs, but it is worth the effort.

I got so used to using Aperture with my Nikon and scans that I really can't give it up at this point.

I actually talked to the local Leica rep about it and he mentioned that some of the Apple peope at Photokina were very excited about the M8 and hoped that it would supported soon. We'll see.

It is ridiculous, I am really disappointed...How much more time will I have to wait in order to have everything in place, meaning: my M8 fully updated and corrected, my lenses coded and with the UV/IR filters AND the possibility to work my DNG files in Aperture?

You can't of been waiting very long for M8 support, the camera is only just hitting the streets.

Yes Apple needs support for many more cameras and backs, but what a fantastic program it is.

Kevin.
