devils-advocate Posted December 8, 2006 Share #42 Posted December 8, 2006 What a timely and potent reminder that photography is supposed to *FUN* and a reason to go on a roadtrip to a fabulous natural location with friends, rather than to become exorcised about the vagueries of modern technology. Rock on gents! - N.
abrewer Posted December 8, 2006 Share #43 Posted December 8, 2006 Great shots guys. One of the joys of this Forum is travelling vicariously, through pictures, with other members. Thanks for sharing. Allan
sean_reid Posted December 8, 2006 Share #44 Posted December 8, 2006 “Rob, you did bring some Alexander Keiths for the gang, right?” Sean - those are condoms? Alexander Keith's is a brewery in Halifax, Nova Scotia the produces one of the best beers in the world. Don't know nuthin' 'bout the need for the other. Cheers, Sean
cnguyen Posted December 8, 2006 Share #45 Posted December 8, 2006 Guy - I was checking on any noct for sale on Fleebay and guess what I found ... your name as highest bidder on the Noct hehehehehe.
c6gowin Posted December 8, 2006 Share #46 Posted December 8, 2006 Sean is right about the Alexander Keiths. It was my favorite beer when I was working in Canada. I especially liked the draft. Guy is going to have about all of the Leica M lenses in his bag before he gets a chance to use the 30% off voucher(s). However, I think he is enterprising enough to get some value out of the voucher(s).
tjphoto Posted December 8, 2006 Share #47 Posted December 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Am i the only one who thinks the colors look horrid out of the M8? I'm seeing a lot of purple and cruddy reds in skin tones. I really wanted to get one, but not now. Thanks, Tim Jones Tim Jones Photography
Peter41951 Posted December 8, 2006 Share #48 Posted December 8, 2006 Perhaps it's the beer.....
pat308 Posted December 8, 2006 Share #49 Posted December 8, 2006 The way the weather is shaping up here on the coast today (friday), if you are in Yosemite on Saturday morning you should/might have fresh snow.
Jamie Roberts Posted December 8, 2006 Share #50 Posted December 8, 2006 Am i the only one who thinks the colors look horrid out of the M8? I'm seeing a lot of purple and cruddy reds in skin tones. I really wanted to get one, but not now. Thanks, Tim Jones Tim Jones Photography Tim-- The processing is off, that's all. Don't judge anything like a purchase decision from these field shots! While all of the folks in that cabin are excellent photographers, I bet none of them hauled a colour managed Artisan up to the low-bandwidth cabin They're posting these from laptops--dollars to doughnuts--and I'd never do anything but snapshot work from a laptop. I think Jack's using a Sony...But the point is that you can't really color manage any of them. So, yeah, WB is off on the indoor shots, and Jack looks a little, um, flushed. Rob's skin tones look fine outside, and since he's holding the 5d, I assume it's an M8 shot. Or--it could be the martinis as well as the beer
Jack_Flesher Posted December 8, 2006 Share #51 Posted December 8, 2006 Jamie is of course correct -- we are all processing on laptops (and I am on a Sony, Guy is on a Mac and Robert on an IBM). Also, my cabin has a host of mixed tungsten, halogen and fluorescent lighting, so please do not make any final judgements about color from these posts, especially the indoor shots. And there is a wee bit of alcohol being consumed during the evening when most of the indoor shooting and processing is going on Cheers, Jack
craigrmurray Posted December 8, 2006 Share #52 Posted December 8, 2006 What a timely and potent reminder that photography is supposed to *FUN* and a reason to go on a roadtrip to a fabulous natural location with friends, rather than to become exorcised about the vagueries of modern technology Nick: I sure couldn't have said this better. After all the M8 bashing, I was so glad to get on the forum today and see some guys shootin' pix and drinking at the same time, no less! Kinda reminds me of Animal House after Dean Wormer kicks everybody out and closes Delta House --what to do next? ROAD TRIP!
andybarton Posted December 8, 2006 Share #53 Posted December 8, 2006 Looks like a great weekend in store, but why do I keep hearing a guitar and a banjo duelling?
tjphoto Posted December 8, 2006 Share #54 Posted December 8, 2006 Ok, maybe it's the laptops. But why does the 5D look 1,000 times better? Thanks, Tim Tim Jones Photography
robsteve Posted December 8, 2006 Author Share #55 Posted December 8, 2006 LOL! Rob, this white balance looks like some pictures I have taken, which ended up being very hard to correct. There wasn't any red light around, eh? Carsten; Here is another shot of Jack, straight conversion, just the camera AWB.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 8, 2006 Share #56 Posted December 8, 2006 Tim buy a 5D BTW lets' remember we are the artist and the color we give you is the color we want and maybe not what you expect. robsteve Posted December 8, 2006 Author Share #57 Posted December 8, 2006 Here is Jack's famous cat pictures taken with his M8. The small print is full frame M8 file. The first large print is 16x20 crop out of an effictive 30x44inch print, uprezed in Photoshop to 30x44 at 360ppi. The biggest print (there is a little flash reflection on it) is a 16x20 crop out of what would be a 5 foot by 7.5 foot print.
andybarton Posted December 8, 2006 Share #58 Posted December 8, 2006 Is that a rainbow in the waterfall spray, there, Guy? Very subtle - I like it. The muted browns of the rocks in the river are lovely too. Mind you, I bet you wish you had a 5D instead
andybarton Posted December 8, 2006 Share #59 Posted December 8, 2006 5 ft x 7.5 ft.? You can do better than that with a sensor the size of a postage stamp surely? I would like to see one of these babies in the flesh, so to speak.
nachkebia Posted December 8, 2006 Share #60 Posted December 8, 2006 Yosemite + M8 = Cat pictures?
