Thanks well I am at the airport on my way home and everyone has left to go to there homes also. It was a fun weekend and we enjoyed sharing it here. My final thoughts are I was very pleased with my results from the M8 it functions very nicely but i am looking forward to the updated firmware both camera's had 1.06 and i am also looking forward to some better profiles. It is not perfect yet and given my experience from the DMR when it gets to the DMR standards than i will consider it perfect until than we will press on . Enjoy the day and get out and have some fun. Thanks for looking and sharing.

I am falling in love with the 50 lux barely have taken it off 1.4 there is one in here the one with the solo leaf is the CV 15mm

 

I love that lens too...also the 35/1.4

DO NOT SELL THE LUX. It has the tab focus , hood that stays open and focuses extremely fast and at 1.4 i have not seen much better than this lens. The Nocti is really nice but i will not be giving the Lux up for it. look at the bokeh Cindy it is really nice, maybe not as smooth but still extremely good. Plus the size and weight do go to the Lux . really i don't think having just the Nocti is the answer , either both or the lux only. It just does more

When Guy was shopping for 50s I gave him the same advice that he is now giving you. The Noctilux is a wonderful and special lens but I find the 1.4 to be the more versatile lens: smaller (blocks less of the frame line area), faster to focus, etc.

I agree with you about raw developer but you may also want to use C1 with the JFI profiles Sean recommends. I found them to be awesome and for the $16 they charge a real bargain. Whoops, just did a test and the JFI profiles work perfectly in Raw Developer as well.

They just expanded the profile set as well. They sent some new one's designed to emulate various films in RAW conversion (as some other products do in post).

"...ok but not enough differents.." ? I'd say about, for a kit, at least 5 lbs and a sore back ;)

5D weigth mabe 300g more then M8. Take with same lenses Leica ( 2.8/28mm, 2/35mm, 2/50mm, 2/90mm) and Canon (EF2.8/28mm, EF2.0/35mm, EF1.8/50mm,EF 1.8/85mm), Canon going to weigth less! If you thinking Canon 5D and 2-3 f/2.8 zoomlenses than OK, you going to get sore back, but also you have much more focals.

I agree buy the 5D than. This leaves more available to the folks that actually know the difference and really want the M8 for what it is. I am going home with 9 lenses and 2 body's in a bag that is like the size of a 4 slice toaster. My back feels great. LOL

I am fine to spend money, I have 1DS-MKII which costed more then M8. Bat I got with that money something which I can see why my money has gone. Spend double just to show I can spend and I have got a Leica about my neck, this to me is what means to waste money not to spend him, sorry.

Sean, I have a 50 Summilux pre-ASPH. Do you think it is worth the money to upgrade to the ASPH?

I've been reading for a month now on the prod and cons of the M8 and at times its gets tiring. I must say this Yosemite thread has been fantastic, even with the one or two hi-jacks that have taken place. The pictures are fantastic, it's fun to put faces to posts, and it's great to see a bunch of guys having fun with their hobby and profession.

 

Thanks, I've really enjoyed this thread.

Jack had us in a great place. Sometimes we didn't even have to get out of the truck to shoot, as evident by the shadow.

The next day Mike and I are back in Yosemite Valley. I snap this handheld with the M8 while showing it to a fellow photo enthusiast from New Zealand.

All of the above images were taken with the M8 and UV-IR filters were on the lenses.

Here's my only 5D/M8 comparison comment- When I went out in public with the 5D and great glass compared to when I went out in public with the M8 and great glass... which one do you think got more attention? Which one got more comments? Which one seemed more "impressive" to people? Yup, the 5D. of course. I've only come across one person who said anything about the M8 being anything other than a P&S. So no one is impressed, no one cares. Would you be impressed? I think not. So I'm not getting the "just to show" part. Show who?

Here is a picture that was on my SD card but I didn't take. Rob Martin, a Fred Miranda forum member ran into Mike Hatam and I on the Yosemite Valley floor. He and his girlfriend joined us for lunch at the hotel. Rob snapped this of his girlfriend using the 24mm ASPH, f2,8 and 1/30th of a second. Looks like he caught on to rangefinder focusing quite fast.

When we bumped into him, he was using a Hasselblad H1 with a digital back and noticed my DMR. When I told him it was a Leica, he brought up the new M8. I told him I had one in my waiste pouch and if he had his own SD cards, he was welcome to shoot it a bit. Rob took a few minutes shooting the M8 and I think he was quite impressed with it. When we ran into him at the next stop, we invited them to join us for lunch.
