Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 10, 2006 Share #161  Posted December 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Jack, First of all, to Lars and anyone else who might misunderstand: I am not "carping" on the magenta cast in the people/mixed light pictures, I own an M8 and I am genuinely concerned. In the roughly 100 shots I took before I sent it off to Solms, I saw some really weird colour casts which were so strong that I could not correct them in Lightroom at all. Some of them looked like the original version of the "Cheers" Jack-picture (I note that it has been corrected; looks good now, maybe a little weak).  To give my concern some substance, here are two pictures which really show it. I white balanced the first one on the grey of the M8, and the second one on the white marble table. Both pictures look very close to the original colours, except the skin tones. I didn't take the second one (I was chatting with a guy in a café who was very interested in the camera, and he shot a couple), and I completely messed up the focus on the first one. No art here, just a couple of shots. The exposures were reasonable in both pictures.  I presume Leica will make great improvements to this with the modifications, I am just concerned, that's all. Concerned enough that it finally spurred me to buy a WhiBal card. Curiously, it is grey, with a black and white, cm and inches, sticker. I thought they were tri-colour? Anyway, it'll work.  I also bought a soft-release from Abrahamsson. Great little thing; can't wait to use it.   Carsten I hope when yours comes back we see nothing of this , this is clearly screwed up

Jack_Flesher Posted December 10, 2006 Share #164  Posted December 10, 2006 Jamie/Steve:  I think you both make valid points and differ perhaps on amplitude more than anything  I would agree that I look a bit red-magenta in the one and a bit pasty in the other, and neither is really what my skin looks like. FWIW I have pretty typical northern European ruddy complexion, but live in California and spend plenty of time outdoors so do have somewhat tan skin as well.  What I have noticed, is the the M8 (with IR filter on lens) does fine with the more olive-toned Mediteranean and darker complexions than it does with ones that tend toward ruddy lighter tones. In our group, Guy, Mike and Mark all have more olive-toned complexions while Robert and I more ruddy. In many M8 frames, Robert and I don't look quite right in that we appear more blotchy than we are in real life, yet the others all look pretty good.  I fall on the side that the M8 in its current trim with the filtered lens still falls short on some skin tones. It's not horrible, but not fully accurate either and IMO this fact needs to be addressed by Leica either by firmware update or if necessary, a replacement of the sensors' IR cut filter.  Cheers,  Jack

robsteve Posted December 10, 2006 Author Share #168 Â Posted December 10, 2006 Here is Mike Hatam trying out a H2 with a Kenyon Gyro that Robin Martin had with him. Robin is a Fred Miranda user and asked about the M8. Robin had his own SD card and borrowed the M8 and 24mm ASPH to shoot a few shots. I think he really liked the camera. Â I used the 24mm on the M8 for this picture. Â

Cindy Flood Posted December 10, 2006 Share #172 Â Posted December 10, 2006 Guy, Now that you have worked with the 50 Lux side-by-side this week, with the 50 Noctilux, what are your thoughts? I would like to try the Noctilux, but it would probably mean selling the Lux. Â Your shots from this trip are all fantastic. I am really enjoying them. abrewer Posted December 10, 2006 Share #175 Â Posted December 10, 2006 Hey Cindy! Â The 50 Lux ASPH is phenomenal. I would like to try the Noctilux, but it would probably mean selling the Lux. Â Your shots from this trip are all fantastic. I am really enjoying them. Â Â DO NOT SELL THE LUX. It has the tab focus , hood that stays open and focuses extremely fast and at 1.4 i have not seen much better than this lens. The Nocti is really nice but i will not be giving the Lux up for it. look at the bokeh Cindy it is really nice, maybe not as smooth but still extremely good. Plus the size and weight do go to the Lux . really i don't think having just the Nocti is the answer , either both or the lux only. It just does more
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 10, 2006 Share #177  Posted December 10, 2006 Cindy the bird cage is the Lux as a matter of fact everything you will see with bokeh in the next series is the Lux and all wide open . i missed focus on the car which BTW was black.
