robsteve Posted December 9, 2006 Author Share #81  Posted December 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guys, I envy you. These photos are superb. Thanks. The «Tunnel view» in color looks like it's in 3D. What was the lens?  Olivier:  The tunnel View was shot using the 35-70mm Vario-Elmarit with a polarizer and ND grad. This is the lens I am shown shooting in the picture above.

pemayeux Posted December 9, 2006 Share #83 Â Posted December 9, 2006 Those two barns way down in the valley are really cool. I drove down there and shot them two years ago.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 9, 2006 Share #84  Posted December 9, 2006 Some very early morning stuff , really cold and the M8 held it's ground in the cold. i did have one weird issue but went away after turning it off and on .One corrupted file, maybe static. But was fine Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! robsteve Posted December 9, 2006 Author Share #85 Â Posted December 9, 2006 Here is the power of a Leica M and a Noctilux. This was shot this morning prior to the sun rising. The exposure was 1/15th, f1.0, 1250iso. Looks how the Noctilux even brings in detail in the forest behind Guy. Â Jack is having a bit of problem with balance on the ice and frost. robsteve Posted December 9, 2006 Author Share #86 Â Posted December 9, 2006 Later in the afternoon we took a couple shots of an old town. This is an old 28mm F2.8 elmarit dating from somtime in the 1980's. I was at f5.6 or so. Â

sean_reid Posted December 9, 2006 Share #90  Posted December 9, 2006 Don't get me wrong. I think the M8 is sexy. I covet my M7, and would love to have a digitalM7. But, this thing is doesn't look that great with the skin tones. Way too red. I shoot commercially with the leaf aptus 22mp back. It has kick A skin tones.   Enjoy your toys, boys.  Tim Tim Jones Photography  See one example picture in my post towards the end of this thread: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/9637-new-m8-profiles-c1-instructions-8.html  Those are skin tones that make me quite happy.  -------------------------  Keep warm guys and have fun!  Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 9, 2006 Share #91 Â Posted December 9, 2006 It's a little hard with the color at the moment on my laptop and such. i would really not worry about it to much. The altitude and light up here is a little odd to work with but it does look really good but hard to post it , i keep losing a touch of tone at each post, not sure why my laptop does that when i save for web
Guest stevenrk Posted December 9, 2006 Share #92  Posted December 9, 2006 looks like great fun and very cold. What was the temp in those morning shots? And Guy, truly admirable to be out there with just the camera vest.  These two shots that I copied say alot and are very helpful.  look at the skin tones with the M8 and the 5d, both processed in field. In the M8 JF looks like he's been spending a bit too much time in a tanning booth. Very hard to make right in post.  And thank you for posting a shot that finally shows us all what the IR filter looks like in real life from an angle. Gives each of us real info to make a decision with.  Look forward to the shots from tomorrow -- great images. Welcome, dear visitor! robsteve Posted December 9, 2006 Author Share #93 Â Posted December 9, 2006 Steven: Â The M8 files may be a bit red, but I am using LightRoom, not the Leica supplied software. Guy's face was red because it was below zero there. I am also working on a laptop which is not color managed, so I can only guess at the color. mike prevette Posted December 9, 2006 Share #94 Â Posted December 9, 2006 I have been so amazingly happy with lightroom and the M8 files. I know it's not the leica recommended software from Leica but once you turn the saturation down a notch the color has been spot on for me. Â I have not gone through and done a macbeth chart yet (because I've been to busy shooting with this toy) but i think once I dial a chart in it will be very accurate. Rona!d Posted December 9, 2006 Share #95  Posted December 9, 2006 Interesting trip and thanks for sharing it with us. But change your M8 RAW-converter (-settings). The skintones really look bad, and it´s not only the M8, but the RAW-converter (-settings) as you can see from the one shot with the other converter (which looks good).  Have fun, this is all you can change later at home.  Ron

Mine is the Noctilux shot.  I did a test. The first Photo is in LightRoom, the second in ACR. Which looks best

Jamie Roberts Posted December 9, 2006 Share #98  Posted December 9, 2006 Don't get me wrong. Tim Tim Jones Photography  Tim--  There are many other threads showing just the sort of skin tones you'd really get with an M8. And they're the best I've seen short of MF--way better than the 5d or 1ds2--which is saying something.  "Too red" is a matter of profiling and processing. That's it.  The 5d looks ok because despite the fact the files aren't as good as the M8's IMO, the Auto or even programmed WB from the M8 is a bit poor compared with the 5d. In fact, the Canons have got the "best" WB sensors I've seen to date: they are uncannily average (a good thing). But not great.  So you'd never shoot your Leaf seriously without a gray card, right? The same goes for the M8.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 9, 2006 Share #99 Â Posted December 9, 2006 Please someone call Roberts wife and let her know Robert will not make dinner Sunday night. Jamie Roberts Posted December 9, 2006 Share #100  Posted December 9, 2006 yea base your judgement on images after hours of post processing are spent on them.......... The camera seems to cope exceptionally well with the tints but struggles with the shades  I stand by my assertion that's a factor of judging things like contrast and colour on a screen that's somewhat better than a cell phones  Nothing to do with the camera--OR hours of post processing. But if you can't set WB, well, you know the rest
